Hey guys, long time no post.
Anyway,
Since I have switched to Vista, i seem to be getting this really weird lag in anything for about 3-4 seconds. This is rather annoying in FPS as you could imagine. I am running a D-Link DIR-615 with a DWL-G510 wireless reciever.
As always, thanks in advance.

Is the lag related to networking or does the application hang?

Hmm, thats a good point you make. Its like, for example, I am running straight in CoD4, and I get a network interrupted error, or in CSS, i hang badly for about 3-4 seconds, but then suddenly warp around the area i am currently in. So it could be both, I donkt know. All I know is, its rather annoying.

Hmm, it does sounds like a network problem. What security programs are you using?

I was just using the Windows stuff, as I lost most of my other stuff, such as the security suite from my ISP, which I really need to download, cause this windows stuff is just no good. I have tried disabling it, to no avail.

Are you using SP1? I'm pretty sure the original release of Vista had a bug that made most network adapters lag.

Hmm, no idea then. How hot does the wireless receiver get?

I haven't really checked that. I am thinking about purchasing a new one, as this one hasnt really worked under XP or Vista. I think it might be a problem with the drivers, as there are little to no 64bit drivers for this wireless card.
Thanks for your help sammorris.

Ah, you didn't mention you were using 64-bit. I'm willing to bet that's not helping. But yes, my cousin uses an adapter very similar to that and it does get hot - indeed lagging when it does. If you had trouble with it in XP, it may be time to choose something else. If you've got a desktop PC, you might want to consider a PCI card with an external aerial as you will get a better wireless signal and it won't overheat.

Yeah, I am probably going to buy something much more powerful. I am currently in Australia, do you have any suggestions that I would be able to access quite easily?

No problem. You can probably find better deals than that, it's the first site I found with one "available" - I think it's out of stock though...

Ok.
Update !
I called up D-Link and asked them about the problem. They said I should buy the model up, because it has "guaranteed" reliability.
So I pop the DWL-g520 in today, and guess what?
I still have packet loss.
Yum.

Packets will always be lost in wireless signals - that alone shouldn't cause lag for multiple seconds unless the signal is marginal.

Hmm, yeah.
My notification thing is now saying it has a very low signal, but its not AS bad as before? And DL speeds are better?
Vista was created just to confuse me.

That's probably just because the newer model receiver has a better antenna in it.
