Yeah well, ATI's software's a bit pathetic really, it might just be taking issue with the fact that you're using 64-bit Vista. I'm intending on doing so soon with the same card and motherboard you're using, so I'll see how it goes for me.

Too bad there isnt a way you could "find" (cough, cough) an XP Pro version somewhere. I wonder where you could "find" one? Maybe just to test things out until Fista is stable say like SP33 LOL

Hmm, I don't see anything nasty there, except for 'driver is not certified' for your GPU...

Like I said before, I'm not a Fista expert but something in that log (reads like a Sandrasoft log am I right?) stuck out.

I cant remember where I've read this but since Fista needs admin rights and all that UAC stuff and special permissions to run most programs, you really need to have your naming specified. Check out #1 fun fact at this website http://www.arsgeek.com/?p=1172 and let me know if it helps at all.

Well guys it has now been about 20hrs since my last restart. That has to be a record. I don't know if this is what we were lookin' for but i is a start that's for sure. Thank GOD! I hope it lasts permanently, of course. I will let you know. All I did this time around was change the memory timings from 5-5-5-15 to 5-5-5-18 keeping Deardrum's earlier BIOS settings as well.

Cheers

One more thing guys. I noticed the hard computer was working hard even thuogh I wasn't doing much with it so I ran Task Manager to check it out and came across the resource monitor which was telling me that the command perfmon.exe had a high rating under hard faults/min so I found this on the net:

Could it be?

It must be the name change right? LOL, I doubt that specifically fixed things but it should help down the road with permissions and especially if you decide to network your computer.
About your RAM changes, have you ran Memtest at new settings? Any reason you want it at 555-18 and not -15?

To be truthful Deardrum I am very new in the computer hardware scene. I am a Mega Downloader though. And when I say Mega I mean MEGA! I have developed a lot of interest in computing since and I am a pretty fast learner. I hope I get through this endeavour and appreciate all I have learned while trying to ascertain the cause. You guys play a big part in the whole learning scene of course. As far as the timings are concerned I simply read them of the memory specs in the OCZ website. I don't even know what they mean or what they do YET. The 20h thing went to 22hrs and then packed up on me once again. What I have noticed is the computer working excessively without any reason whatsoever. The CPU usage doesn't go high, probably because it can do a lot of work but that prompted me to check Task manager like I mentioned earlier. When I opened the Resource Monitor I see a lot going on without any reason, especially under Hard Disk and Memory. Under Memory the Hardfaults/sec seems to be high every now and then. Maybe I will go that way now.

One thing. On one of my previous posts I mentioned that when I checked the Event Viewer it still had week old logs even though I just had freshly reinstalled Vista. Do you know anything about this?

Cheers

Note- I haven't ran Memtest on the new settings yet, but I will.

Did you just reinstall over top the old Fista, or did you completely format and partition the hard drive before install? I Always recommend a fresh install over reinstall, traces of old logs and files do stick around with reinstalls because its trying to save some data for re-use while replacing others and doesnt always get it perfect.
As far as memory goes, isnt this what you have? http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/me...per_hpc_edition
I'd also recommend running them at the 555-15 @2.1V like the webpage specs call out. Run tests. If that doesnt work, change that memory multi from 3.2B down to 2.4B and try running at 800mhz instead of 1066. Run tests. Between Sam and I we should be able to stabilize your system if doing anything aside from buying new sticks on the boards list will fix it.

At the moment that seems the best 'sure fire' strategy.

I really appreciate your help guys. Cheers. As far as the reinstallation of Vista is concerned I always format the HD (during install)before I reinstall Windows. I try to create a partition since my HD is 1TB but upon installation it doesn't allow me to create one. As far as the memory is concerned that is my memory so, I must have been trippin' at the time unless since I have 2x2GB kit, that should make a difference. You know better.

Hey Guys. It has now been over 24 hours with Vista 32 Ultimate stable, THANK GOD! Still I will consider the next 24 hrs a testing period before being convinced that everything is OK. If everything is OK, then what do you think could be the reasons for 64 not being stable?

Another thing guys. I have to build a system for my younger brother this week and I already have his 6400+ with me. Would y
ou please lend me your suggestions as to what the rest of the components should be, having in mind a budget of £500.

Note: He prefers a better mobo, to a better GPU.

Many Thanks

Crappy drivers for something - probably still graphics related. ATI are notorious for having bad drivers.

As for your brother's PC, what's he using it for?

I guess he would probably use it for games and autocad related work.

If I were trying to be negative I'd mention that the mobo has only 4 SATA headers and no E-SATA on the back panel. Since thats a pretty specific request if someone has an E-SATA device, its a non-issue for 99% of people. I like that list Sam, I was gonna suggest a Gigabyte board because Floss313 should be used to the setup by now ;) but you have it under control.
Floss---set your memory and other advanced timings yet?

I'm not a great fan of eSATA. The cables seem even less secure than normal SATA ones, and have caused me lots of page faults in the past. Your better bet is just to use a normal PCI backplate that lets you have external S-ATA ports like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-ATA-SATA-SERIAL-...1QQcmdZViewItem
, and then use a S-ATA cable with a retention clip on it, like the ones Gigabyte give you.

It's what I've been doing and works better.
