Well, that really depends on the monitor you use. If all it gets used for is DVD playback, then the fact that the X1550 is much faster won't be relevant. However, if you use a monitor that has a DVI or HDMI connection - you will get a better picture by using the X1550 as you can use a DVI/HDMI cable rather than VGA.

I am using a 32inch HD LCD.I get pretty good resolution as is.But sometimes the dvds skip and playback of .mkv files isnt always flawless.

That shouldn't happen even with a 6100. Perhaps try grabbing some new codecs, or updating graphics drivers.

Hold on I've just realised - MKV files, are you playing high def? Because a 6100 WILL struggle with some of those.

the x1550 will be slightly better, but with only 256mb and a 32" LCD, HD mkv files might still skip. look into 512mb for smooth playback.

what are the computer specs?

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

You won't need a 512MB card to run any high def files - with the right codecs, a Mobility X1400 can run anything out there.

The X1550 does seem to perform better at mkv play back but i just installed it and havent tested DVD playback yet.
Will a DVI connection be alot better then VGA?

It won't improve performance, but will give a crisper picture.

So you use a DVI to HDMI adapter, they're cheap and come with most graphics cards anyway. Then all you need is the HDMI cable.
