Here we go.... lol

You'll have to check inside your machine mate, run the cable from the IDE slot up to the optical drive, (the central clip in the cable should be clipped into the optical) then the end clipped into the hard drive.

If the cable is'nt long enough - you can buy them very cheaply over the net - if your in the UK £2-£3 quid. Be careful what you buy though... cables have changed as P.C.'s have grown more powerful - make sure you buy the same one...
By the way... If your P.C. or peripheral equipment does suggest a method of connection - you should always follow the manufacturers advice.

I think I may have just run into "my" first problem with the hacked 107 drive.

For the first time EVER, while using shrink the disk failed to burn correctly. I don't know if it a shrink issue or what but, Ihave never had any problems using shrink and having a disc fail to burn.

I will try it one more time and see if it was just an anomaly or if there is some sort of problem burning through shrink using Nero.

Anyone else with a hacked 107 using shrink and Nero 6 have a problem with 8x yet?

I just got a 107 and I can't burn higher than 1.6x on Memorex DVD-R discs. The machine I have the burner is running Windows 2000 server. I flashed it up to the newest firmware and it is still doing the same thing. I am going to go buy some different discs and try it. Just not sure why it won't burn 4x rated memorex's higher than 1.5

Well, I tired again and everything worked perfectly. Maybe it was just a bad disc, a conflict of some sort, that particular movie (sinbad for kids)or just bad luck. In any case, when burning school of rock it all worked seamlessly with ZERO compression I might add.

Sorry for the false alarm.

I've experienced this, I tried copying a bluey ;-) "for one of the lads in work I might add lol" The disk refused to be recognised when Nero 6 kicked in ?!?#!.
Put a different disk in - no worries, film copied no problem.

Now I was going to throw the disk away, but I tried it with another film - burned ok. Maybe the disk was "porn protected" ,"lol".

I think Nero was playing silly buggers - but I wouldn't worry too much - If this keeps happening maybe we should all write to Pioneer tech. And ask them to look into it?

As for the issue with disk burning at 1.5, yeah try a different media type - also reinstall your software - make sure you do a complete uninstall first, then reboot to flush the registry - then reinstall - you never know! Let us know.

You romantic old dowg you! Now that's what I call a prezzy... Bought my wife a dishwasher once, had to send here back to Sweden though - lol.

I've had some bad experience's with various cheap disks on my previous Optorite writer - I was using Datewrite Red and Bulkpack Red. - crap quality.

I bought the 107 and thought I might as well try burning on them again to use them up - 20-30 burns later - no problems, disks work fine on every reader they've been in, so I'd say yes, try them, it's worth the gamble.... especially at that price!

Now there's your advice...... Pay up for it...... Where are you buying disk's at that price??? Lol.

Oriphus, what are you doing to my brain! lol
I've been reading the thread over a couple of days now, and you've talked me into updating my firmware (nobody seems to have issues once it's done!

- so I followed your link for the update and - "this is when I went pear shaped" - I use windows 98, and the readme files attached with the firmware suggests xp,

Also I've come across 2 firmware updates (aaahhhhhh)

Gis some advice mate, do I use,,,

DVR-107Dv1.05_RPC-1+12xRip+8xDVD-R_WINDOWS_XP

or

DVR-107D v1.10 - RPC-1 + 12xRip + 8xDVD-R

I downloaded...
DVRFlash_v1.1

But 'aint got a clue how to update this on my system...

Is there a guide or can you tell me how it's done (dos commands if needed too)

Cheers

Zoidy

Right -
I got my brain into gear and read, re-read then tried the firmware patch for X8 burning on X4 media.

Firmware Rev.:V1.05
Author: NIL: Files Compiled by Flash

Started the Win98 command prompt.

Typed in the directory - got as far as this and no further.........???

I typed...

C:\flash>DVRFlash -V E: R7100007.105 R7100107.105

And all I got was this?

C:\flash>DVRFlash -V E: R7100007.105 R7100107.105
C:\FLASH\DVRFLASH.EXE: illegal option -- V

DVRFlash v1.1 : Pioneer DVR firmware flasher
Coded by Agent Smith in the year 2003 with a little help from >NIL:

usage: DVRFlash [-f] [-k] [-v] device [kernel] [general]
Most features are autodetected, but if you want to specify options:
-f : force flashing
-k : put drive in Kernel mode
-v : verbose

Any Ideas where I'm going wrong guys?
I'm currently on 1.10 anyways?!?

Thanks

Mark

I've been using my flashed 107 drive for a few weeks now and the only problem I have encountered is that when burning 4X Riteks at 8X after playback on my pc and my tabletop dvd player is that the movie back-up freezes and gets stuck and starts getting all jerky,so for the time being I've decided to burn my 4x media at 6X. I'm using 1. DVD Decrypter 2.DVD2One 3. Nero 6 Oem suite. I think this drive is awesome cause it also does my CD+G (karaoke) back-ups to CDR using Padus discjuggler and it's not even mentioned on their supported hardware list,6X is faster than 4X so I can't complain. Is anyone else out there experiencing this little bug? thanks

Hiya zoidy,

There is a difference between -v (lowercase) and -V (uppercase)...

Do you think that might be what is wrong?

Apart from booting into the DOS part of Win98 (which is not a true DOS anyway).
One of the reasons why I keep DOS 6.22 handy.

Have Fun...

Life is just more of the same:

thanks for the tip, but the V is a typing error here only ;-(

In dos, I'm putting in lower case "v".

I've been scanning the other forums - but still abit stuck.

I've put all the files in a place called

C:/Flash
I start with the win98 boot disk

at A: I change Directory to C:/Flash (where i hold the files)

Follow the procedure and ..... NOWT!

Pissing me off it is - but I'm probably learning :-)

Any help is still appreciated,

Regards

Zoidy

karatone - I have noticed the same thing on ritek 4x -r burning at 8x I get skips etc. , So I only burn at 6x still pretty darn good. I love this drive. I have 2 of them in 1 box and can do 2 disc's in under 11 mins.

Best way to backup that movie

Hey Prey, it looks like you're using the same programs that I am and getting the same results at 8X ,maybe someone else can chime in about how they are able to get freeze and jitter free back-ups at 8X. Anyone else getting perfect results at 8X? I think it's probably Nero that's limiting our speed. I don't think it's the drives fault for the defects. I am very impressed with this drive. If you don't already have this new 107 ,get it now!

No problems burning ritek 4x at 8x. No skipping no issues at all. I too have that faint ring on the burned side of the disc but, it causes no problems in any of my players and everything is working fine.

I too use dvd20ne, decrypter and nero

ericbee , are you using + or - ritek ? I am using - and I get pixel/skip near last chapter in every movie I tried at 8x burn. though 6x burn is flawless. Also is there a booktype setting utility for the pioneer a07 ? I would like to burn as dvd-rom instead of +or- r.
