I have two different dvd burners, one the Sony 500A model the other a "Generic 4x DVD +and- Burner" that I just got.

Both are hooked up on the same ribbon cable with 'Cable select" on both of them, instead of using the Master and Slave settings.

BOTH dvd's work to burn dvds, but when I use the "Multiple Recorder" option for Nero (I tried Alcohol 120% and Disc Juggler, both freeze on startup... is there ANY OTHER program that does multiple recorder burns for DVDs???)

So when I try to do both I get errors, one wont copy or it usually wont even start :(

I was going to use different cables for each because I heard 2 cd recorders on the same cable leads to problems and i figure DVD is the same way... BUT, my only other ribbon cable is to my hard drive and I dont want that to lock up or freeze up the entire system (mainly the dvd burning, i use no other programs when i burn a dvd) so what can i do?

I use dvd burners for legal purposes, we do a wedding/event recording company and burn multiple dvd's of the ceromonies. Usually we burn 4 or 5 but sometimes up to 20 per client, so im not using it for illegal purposes fyi.

Any help greatly appreciated

I'm done.

Hiya jdm001,

First off.
If you want to burn multiples at the same time, without problems, it is absolute lunacy having more than 1 burner on each IDE chain.

Simple and cheap solution is to buy simple PCI IDE controller cards (cost approx 20 bucks US, 15 pounds UK) - 1 card will control 2 burners quite happily.

For absolute best results, all burners should be of same make/model/firmware.

It is possible to mix-and-match but the burners MUST be seperate - nothing but problems otherwise.

The PC MUST have loads of free resources (CPU, Memory, HD Space etc)

Download a trial version of RecordNow DX or MAX (check burner compatability ONE AT A TIME).

If all is ok, then set it for multiple burns, remember to release the restriction for multiple burners.

Have Fun....

All that and make sure that the burners both burn the disc at the same speed.

Okay. I moved the generic to slave w/ my HD and will test it until i can get the ISA card (im low on space and only have one expansion slot left so i'd rather not use it if i have to)

Also, is there a way to test how it would burn cause it says it's burning at 2x sometimes and both drives can goto 4x, but even when i choose 2x and it finishes it still takes the same exact amount of time of 52 minutes.

Thanks for the help btw,

Jm

I'm done.

I HOPE you meant PCI card....

Are you trying with RecordNow?
Are your drives detected properly?

Setting up multiple burning is FIDDLY, as everything has to be just so, that's why the advice about same make/model/firmware etc.

I ONLY use Pioneer drives and no problems mixing A04, 104 and 105 (106 is on the way, I shall wait till I KNOW the 107 is a good'un).

Have Fun...
