I am curious as to why you would want to do such a thing. They are a good deal of work and it really helps if you know what you are doing.

That does not make sense.

If you want to post something why not use an existing tracker? That is kind of like making your own mail sever so you can use email. Using someone elses tracker is easier and smarter. It will be easier to have enough users to sustain your torrents because you will have outsiders. These trackers will have search engines and other functions.

Why is using an existing tracker unacceptable?

Did you know.... peanuts are an ingredient of dynamite... oops.. wrong site..

DYK azureus has a small built in tracker. It's probably better to run an older version so you don't have all the vuze crap. http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/UG_Tracker

99 out of 100 site/shell hosts will not allow trackers, regardless of legality.. it's a bandwidth thing.

No, it is PENUT BUTTER!

I was figuring there are more reasons not to build your own tracker than for. The best reason is. I just want to do it for no good reason. Half the wacky stuff I do is to see if I can do it. Then I shut them down. You shouldn't really do that with a tracker.

You can also use a private net like gigatribe. It does not use torrents but that should not be a problem if the files are only 200mb. The huge advantage is, no tracker. With a small user group it might be as fast or faster. Torrents is great and fast when you have lots of seeders. The private net is more flexable and secure. With the private net as long as any 2 users are up they can xfer. It is real hard to xfer with one user no matter what you use. (You do not have to be up 24/7.) The torrent hunter-killer robot apps will not bother these stealth nets. They 'fly under their radar'.

varnull,
I saw an interesting thread in audio you are working on. I did not put in my two cents because there was nothing to add or ask. I too will be very interested to see what the bit rate for apple lossless is. I bet you will not get an answer. I do not think bit rates are real important to itune users. I guess that was redundant! I don't even believe their 128 IS actually 128. I think they just stamp the tag info with 128. It is smaller and does not sound as good as 128 mp3 produced with LAME. Apple is the king of garbage! I hate them more than Microsoft and that is really saying something!

Zephirus, sorry for digressing.

Let me see if I understood, imagine that i have 200 users, with giga tribe i can invite all de 200 and offer to them a great speed service? Is that?... But can I control their ratio and everything?

But just a question is possible install it in a server? And make it accept every user automatically even if I dont know them?

Most subs files are only 30-40k. Why use a tracker at all when somewhere like zshare/rapidshare is faster and easier?

Now about legality.. It's reasonably ok to distribute fansub subs files, but not the copyrighted anime, licensed or otherwise. Just because something doesn't yet have a European or US distribution license doesn't mean it is copyright free. the producers probably have deals with the major distributors to release these titles in the future... beware.. you could open a can of worms that will cost more money than you have in lawyers to get out of. Running a public tracker isn't something you really want to consider in the current climate unless you fancy getting busted big time.. TPB are looking at spending millions in legal fees. Better to set up some forums (or join animesuke) and just host the subs files.

Mez.. I'm interested in this using itunes to rip cd's nonsense when there are far better spyware free/cost free apps to do exactly that in a totally lossless open source format. Some people mystify me.. they really do. I reckon the "lossless" bitrate is probably 256 or 320... hehehe.. they haven't heard of flac obviously.

Who said that im going to release my work in english? Neither english, neither japanese are my mother languages. Now you're asking: "So wich is?" , it doesn't matter (but it influence here, in europe is so low...). So do you still really think that is a bad idea? Even if is a minority language?

Zephirus no you can't control anything with gigatribe. Gigatribe is like a fast and secure limewire. It is work to control. If you want top control then use a tracker or something else.
I do not see any mention of a language other than you.

varnull, I would't trust itunes to even play music. I am sure it degrades CDs down to 128 BR when you play them.. You might get quality if you rip to their lossless. You never know what they are putting in your music. I bet they are doing something.

Someone in Japan is being sued for this very same thing. Gigatribe is much safer. Still you could get a spy that could rat you out even with a secure network. That is the fun of doing something illegal. I do not have that much need for excitement.

Good luck!
