I backed this one up with DvdFab Platinum. Had some trouble with Full Disc, that i'll investigate further later. Settled for the time being for Main Movie which went without a hitch.

Had no trouble at all with full disk on this one. Started doing my back-ups a new way now.

Copy with dvdfab platinum, run thru fixvts, then use dvd shrink to compress.

Yeah, my disc had a big thumbprint on it, i'm assuming it was mine. Lol.

Cleaned it off and didn't have any trouble doing full disc the second go round.

Hi all. I am getting a strange error trying to convert Stop-Loss, and I can't find any info anywhere else. Whatever advice you can give is much appreciated. Folks here seem to know quite a bit about how DVD Shrink works.

Note: I have had this problem on a few different discs; Stop-Loss is just the most recent one. Most discs work fine for me.

I am trying to back up DVDs for playback on my zune (640x360 widescreen resolution). It's a 2-step process for me that usually works pretty well.

Step 1 - Use DVD shrink to create a full, uncompressed copy of the main DVD video (convert to a single VOB file).
Step 2 - Use Windows Media Encoder to convert VOB file to wmv according to the ideal specs for Zune.

This works 90% of the time. When it doesn't work it appears that I am getting a problem in step 1. I end up with a VOB file that is missing a section of video, and which has a video length shorter than that of the original film.

Trying to back-up Stop Loss, for example. Step 1 provides a VOB file of about 4.2GB. If I rename this file to have a .mpg extension, it opens in windows media player but only has a run time of 59 minutes. Prior to re-authoring in DVD Shrink the length of the video is listed at 1:51.

I have been able to repeat the problem several times, and I have no idea why it is happening. The only thing I can think is that it has something to do with the "layer break" or some other setting in DVD Shrink.

Has anybody else experienced this sort of thing before?

Your help is most appreciated.

Use dvdfab. You can use the free version before you use shrink, or you can use the trial version, which can also convert the files for the zune in the 'mobile' option.

Dvdfab hd Decrypter is the free version.

Dvdfab platinum is the paid version (30 day trial).

@netpapa, go with rtm27's sagely advice. You can't go wrong, unless you don't take it.

If a linux user who doesn't use dvd fab or any of these "one click wizard things" may comment...

Sometimes you have to rip a few of the titles to get the whole film, then join them up in the right order ;) I love a sony or disney label on a disk.. I just know it's going to be fun XD
