Hey all, wondering if anyone can help me out?

Basicly....my USB ports do not work!

Whats happening is if i plug a new usb device in, my laptop will download the drives for the device. Once they have been installed, the device will work fine, but if i remove the device, then plug it back in, there is nothing. The laptop has no chime, to show something has been plugged in, and also it does not show up in my computer ether.

I have tried, in device manager to update the drivers, and i have tried to delete/uninstall them, then reinstall them also.
I have also tried to update the BIOS, download a new chipset driver.

I am running Windows Premium Home Vista

hope someone can help me out, i need 2 udate my ipod! lol

Thanks for your help

Have u installed Vista Service Pack 1 from what I googled this was a known problem until that update. I would also make sure I have all the latest drivers for my laptop installed. Many people don't know this but you shouldn't just pull out a usb device when you are threw with it there is a safe removal tool near your clock on the right hand bottom of screen it has a green little check mark you should open it select the device you want to remove and select the item in the list and click on stop it will then tell you its safe to remove.

No when I say latest drivers I mean going to either the manufacturer of your pc or motherboards website and looking the system specific drivers. Using Device Manager will only download drivers from within your system or the Windows Update utility sometimes those are not the latest ones.
