Hi everyone,
I have a problem with a sata controller card; I can?t get my PC to recognize this card. I get an error message when I try to install the driver for this card? I tried uploading the driver from the CD software and floppy drive that came with the Promise tx2200 SATA controller and still I get that error message that driver had could not be installed?
I?m running a P3 733 MHZ, 512 RAM, windows XP pro.
I know this controller works as I tried hooking this on my sons PC and it works fine?
Thanks In advance.

Does it even need a driver? Try plugging a drive in it and then reboot. these cards will usually run on the pci bus with nothing but dos... so whatever driver comes with it is usually for windows98 or something rather than a hardware thing..

pci cards are funny things sometimes. They should work but some just won't with certain motherboards.

Sounds to me like the driver you are using is no good. What method are you using to get the driver onto the floppy? Is there some sort of extraction tool used? If so, sometimes those things can corrupt the driver or not put all the files onto the floppy. Go take a look at what's on the floppy to see if the .sys file is even on there.

Also, when you installed the controller card on your sons PC, were you using the same driver and OS? You could be loading a 32-bit driver for a 64-bit OS or vice versa.

Get some screen shots if you can, makes it much easier to figure out the problem.

Here is the link to the most available driver. There have been lots of fixes since the first release, so if you think you have an older driver, I would install the latest and greatest. You might also want to check your FW on your card. Some drivers aren't compatible with other versions of FW for that card.

HI goodswipe,

After trying all the suggestions mentioned above I still couldn?t get this to work? On a whim I downloaded a bios update from Promise.com to see if maybe this would help?and to my surprise it worked????? I was able to now load the driver (which I also downloaded from their website) I?m still scratching my head on this one? I guess all along I needed an updated bios before I was able to load the driver? The next problem I ran into was the hard drive wasn?t being recognized in my computer but it was showing in my device manager?? Well to get around this I ran a data life from western digital and I was able to partion my hard drive, I rebooted and my new sata hard drive was recognized by my computer?
Thanks for the suggestions

Yea, that's what I meant when I said this.

I wanted you to upgrade your cards FW/BIOS so that the driver would be compatible with the new FW/BIOS. Glad to see you got it working.
