131mb read in BIOS! 125mb in XP Setup!

Well, this is an on going problem with my computer. I have always been a gamer and my computer really is terrible only a 2 ghz centrino, 128mb on board graphics, and gig of ram. I recently filled my 2 hardrives up and decided to switch all my files to a larger 80 gb harddrive. <beginproblem> So I hook up my 80 gig up to my computer...with the 20 and the 30 attached. My mistake! It blew the motherboard and the 20 and 40. Now the 80 was only damadged and I didnt realise! So I troubleshoot this problem for a couple days and finally just decided to reformat the 80 and put it in another computer that I no longer use. So I am happy for a couple days then my computer keeps sparatticly shutting down! So then I finally slap in the 'ol windows OEM boot disk and run the chkdsk -r and it days it finds and repairs some sectors and then I boot and wham no windows. :_(. First thing I do is put in my Ubuntu Live CD and boot 'er up and to my relief it works so I run DBAN to remove windows and slap in Ubuntu to install and format the drive. I format it 33\66 with ubuntu on the 33% side. Then I get GRUB Error 18. So I look that up and it means that OS's kernal was installed partially of fully out of the first 1024 sectors. And I know that cant be right because I choose the option on Ubuntu to install at the "Beginning". So I run DBAN again and keep trying to install XP or Ubuntu up to today. It is very interesting becuase XP's Setup reads 125 mb on my drive Ubuntu reads it all and my BIOS reads 131mb. So any brilliant hints tat might make it work or do I just need a new drive?

EDIT: Oh yeah and right now I have DBAN running for 2000 passes. It is at 250.
