I recently downloaded a video done in DivX format. My DVD player does not support the DivX format so I used the program ConvertXtoDVD to convert it to DVD. It plays perfectly on my pc but when I try to play it in my Pioneer Surround Sound DVD player the picture just rolls like the horizontal hold on the tv is out of adjustment. I also tried Nero Burning ROM with the same results. I used two different brands of DVRs and no change. I used GSpot to see if it was a codec problem and everything is ok there. I have used both of these programs before with no problems. What am I doing wrong?

This sounds like a TV standards PAL/NTSC issue.

There should be a setting in the player for the output.
Make sure it's not set to auto, set it to either NTSC or PAL
depending on your location.

Which brands?

Best media to use: Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony (MIJ if you can find them :) )

I used Maxell and TDK but never had a problem with either of them before.

Those particular brands often just stamp their name on different disc manufacturer's discs.

It's possible to have two spindles next to each other that code out as very different brands.

If you want the good stuff, the best brands for blank media are the ones i listed in my initial response.

Just want to jump in here as I have the EXACT same problem. I first used Convert2DVD and then DVDShrink which I have used before and the movie did the same thing on 5 different DVD players. I have tried 2 different DVD-R's, but still the same.

I then took the same movie, different .avi file and used WinAVI and DVDShrink, but this time the movie won't play in any DVD player. In both scenerios listed, they all play great in my computer.

I have converted .avi files before with no problems at all regardless of program used or DVD-R's. So, my question is, what would make a .avi file not be able to play in a home dvd player, but play on a computer.

If it were just one file...I might buy it's the file..but I got a couple different .avi files of the same movie and tried it..but no luck. I then tried a different movie that was an .avi file using the processes above...and everything worked fine.

Any thoughts?

7thSinger, I use the ones you listed, except the T.Y. one. Never tried that one before. Thanks for that tip on the extra one. Will have to give that one a try also.

Ok my situation just got stranger. Yesterday I burned the movie Wall.E for my grandaughters using ConvertXtoDVD as I did with the first movie. I also used one of the Maxell DVDRs as before and this time it worked! How weird is that? Time for an exorcism?
