I have avi files from downloads that play fine in windows media player. I have avi files downloaded from my digital camera that won't play in windows media player, it crashes and wants to send errror repoet. I have gspot and it tells me the codec needed is mpeg2 motion and it is installed. I have all in one codec pact, quicktime lite alternative, and avicodec. When i use vlc to play them it says sometime is broke and do i want it to fix it. It doesn't matter if i say yes or no it just goes on and plays it fine. I prefer windows media, what is the difference in the two avi files?

Try opening the file in AVIDemux and saving it with a new file name (also give the extension, e.g. newfile.avi) and see if it is acceptable.

http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

BTW is it 'mpeg2 motion' or 'motion JPEG'
