A ten pack at K-mart is 23-24$. I know they can hold a hell of a lot of data, but the cost of these disks are crazy. I know alot about Dvd stuff, but I want to know this, why do these actually cost so much?

Well, they are a lot more complicated to make than CD's. Considering they are the same size, the pits have to be created differently. In fact, a DVD Disc is on average around 70-80 pence in the UK for a decent disc, less in the US. I dont find that overly expensive.

don't buy your dvd-r at k-mart. I can't think of a place that would be less suited to be a good source of dvd-r. at least go to a computer store or bestbuy where you can get spindles of 15 or 20 for just over $1 each on sale. I don't particularly recommend that route as the quality of those dvd-r is quite suspect.
get riteks g04 via the net (like the adverts on ad) for just over $1 each.

If you have a Office Depot in your area at times they'll offer a buy one get one free. This is the "best" deal as it "usually" ends up costing you about 1 dollar (USA money) for a dvd+r. Down side is you buy these in spools= bundles= no cases.

Wowa Praetor, underneath your sig you have 3 hd's x 160= 480 gigabytes of storage.
What in the world are you storing on your hd's Praetor? I have a whopping total of 190 gb's and I do fine but I do backup to hard disc. (cd-r& dvd-r)
