...I think I know a good amount of converting. So my problem is that I've spent a couple of days trying to figure out how to convert my .avis (I have 25 episodes) into one DVD so it can be played on my DVD player. I know this is possible because I know someone (well i dont rly know him) who was for example, able to have 20 episodes into one DVD. I tried Nero, but failed, ConvertXtoDVD ( i could but excellent quality is like only 4 episodes and I dont want to use like 6 disc). Now I tried WinAvi 9.0 Converter and selected the merging tool. So after 3 hrs, I got three separate folders (2 of which are 4.2 GB and one 280 MB entitled DVD_01_1, DVD_01_2, DVD_01_3). Inside these folders, I have Audio_TS folder and a Video_TS folder with the usual VOBs and the rest. So now my main problem is trying to combine all of these Video files into one. I tried Nero Recode but I can only do one DVD folder at a time (the DVD_01_01 for example). I simply cant combine them and I cannot give up because that person who was able to do this had only one Video folder with all 20 episodes with 4.35 GB. That is why I took the liberty of signing up here because I believe this site is really helpful. Thank you for your time!
How long is each episode? U could use convertxtodvd to do all the episodes and then play it on your pc before burning to see if the quality is good enough for u. Don't go by the quality rating on the program but use your eyes after to see if it's ok.
This person u know of that has 20 episodes on one single layder disc either left them as avi's (divx) and has a dvd player that plays divx or the quality is not as good as u think it is. Did u actually see the vids to compare the quality? If these things are 20-30mins in length there's no way this person has top quality on a SL Disc.
U could try converting and then burning to a DL disc or just splitting them up over 2 discs.
I am having the same problem about a friend that can put 40-50 minute videos on one dvd, about 10 or 11 of them (decent dvd quality, not blue ray)...how do you exactly go and do it?
As has already been stated. Some DVD players can play Divx/Xvid
directly. In this case you write the avi files to the DVD
as data. The total amount it will hold is the size of all
the avi files that you can fit into the 4.4 GB DVD limit.
The quality is the same as the original files because no conversion
took place.
Or you create (re-encode) proper DVD mpeg-2 from the avi files
and burn a proper DVD. In that case, the amount you should add
depends on the hours and minutes of all the added clips.
Quality starts to degrade rapidly once you go past 3 hours for a
single layer disk.

So Dvd players can play as Data files instead of properly making a dvd from it allowing only 3 hrs?

Yes, divx certified players. Or, get yourself an old XBOX and install XBMC, you'll have one of the best players in the world for the same price or maybe less than a certified Divx player.Nomore time consuming converting, no more burning, .
