I learnt how to backup DVD9 discs with multiple PGC`s.
I just wanted to know how I could post a guide ?
Should I just post it up here and let DRD do a guide for the site ?
It comes in handy when you have discs such as the sopranos and other discs with multiple episodes on one disc.
It is a guide for just the movie with no menu, but most people don`t need menu`s anyway.
Uses DVDDecrypter, Vobedit, Ifoedit and reg burning software.

joshua: Easiest way is first to post it to forums, then go to "Feedback" and bang me an email and tell me the URL of the thread where you posted it. Then I'll probably ask you to get some screenshots and ask your permission to put it on our article section, "AfterDawn.com edited"(tm), retaining your (c)opyrights and credits, obviously.
This same goes for everybody who is willing to contribute -- otherwise I would ask to mail it directly to me, but GEEZ, we have been _so_ lazy and busy in last few months that the process of taking the guides to the article section might take way, way too long time -- so by posting them, they are at least available :-)

Changed this thread to sticky, so everybody else, who are interested of contributing, know the process.

DrD,
I finally got around to creating a manual for burning backup copies of my DVD movies to DVD-R or DVD+R. It includes splitting a movie over the 4.36 limit and also screen shots. I have an HP 100j DVD+RW, as well as the Pioneer A104 DVD-RW. I use SmartRipper, IfoEdit, and Stomp's Record Now Max.
I attempted to post it here, but of course, the screenshots won't copy. How shall you like me to provide it??
Thanks to you & all the members for all the help!!!!!!

Viper! I have a HP 200j and I'm having issues getting my +r media to work. Where can I find your guides!!
I am using the same software you are, except smartrip(using decrypt). I am going to try smartrip this evening, but my standalones spec's say it won't read +r only +rw, so I've got to buy a +rw and hope it'll work.
You can use ctrl+prtscrn(to cut) and paste it into MSword for your screenshots.

Phil,
I have always used the HP media. I can get you the number if you need it. The disks still run about $4 ea. That's why I also purchased a DVD-RW drive.
dRD has a couple of guys proofing my guide, but I have written several technical docs and did my best to make it fool-proof. I was up late though, so you never know!! Anyway, if you can send me an email addy, I can get it to you for the short term. This facilty is great for posting messages, but the MS ALT-PrtSrn function doesn't copy from Word into a text-only window.

I kno the prtscn function will cut your info from wherever and paste it into word as a text box. But pasting it to a text file, no probably not. Viper you can 'psifunnk' me at anytime over in hotmail. I'm paying $8 a pop for hp +r media. But I stopped trying to make backup's b/c I couldn't get the +r media to work in my standalone. But, again, slapping myself with the stupid stick. When I ripped everything I forgot to do the vob xtra's and all of that. (I think, it was late). I'm going to try from scratch, again, this evening or tomorrow and see if I can get something working. My standalone 'should' play +rw media, so I'm going to buy one and also +r and try them both.
But the wierd thing is the movie I did burn crouching tiger, wouldn't playback in my PC, but it worked in my co-workers. I had to open it with IFOedit to get it to play. Again, I think I forgot a step. But I'll hit back this wkend if I still have an issue.

Now I know you'll all be totally flabbergasted that such a bright young lass from the country wouldn't know a very basic skill, but......
how the hell do I do the screenshot thingy?????
Yeah I know - use the search function. Ah what the heck, I reckon you nice blokes will tell me and that'll save me time and effort - see I do still remember what it feels like to be a n*
Whoops ..... very very naughty, shouldn't be nasty about them, you weren't one so long ago yourself.

grogey: Activate the window you wish to take a screenshot from and hold "Alt" button down and hit "Print Scrn" button on your keyboard. Then open your favorite paint/photo editing program (Irfanview, Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, etc) and select "Paste" from there.

I have a list of some programs.
http://p084.ezboard.com/fstreemeboxvcrfrm7.showMessage?topicID=9.topic
These are more on the high end of things because they were selected for their ability to capture screen video. But you will find that programs like these will also capture still pictures from the screen. Most programs that capture both video and stills are shareware that come with a free trial. I am sure there are many other completely free options that will only capture still screen shots.

Also, Grogey, if u are looking to take a screen dump from a DVD playing in media player/ WinDVD/etc, a simple screen dump will not always work. Instead, some of the newer versions of WinDVD etc, allow u to use their program to capture an image. It works a treat with WinDVD 5

Well shucks and thanks!! I'd like to do some screen shots to go with the Nero Image Burn guide I did as well as the one I'm writing up right this very minute - when I really should be in bed awaiting the cold muffins and practically tealess lukewarm tea for my annual "Brekky In Bed" for Mother's Day.
Guide I'm doing now - is on how to fix the problem:
Quote: What problem you may ask. Well somtimes no matter what advice we follow we just can't seem to get good backups of our dvds. I was a classic example, I'd read something in the forums and then follow the advice and get a couple of good burns - jump up and down and post that all my problems were solved, only to burn another bird scarer. (where I come from we don't make coasters, instead we use the useless discs to hang in fruit trees as bird scarers!

whhooooo hooooo it works! Thanks da boss!
Now please tell me - pretty please - if I go into the add a guide function - how do I add my pics? Don't want to get halfway through and find out I should have done something different.
Do I need to store them on web somewhere or put into text document?
