Phillips DVP 5982 HDMI problem

I own a Phillips DVP 5982, and when I try to hook it up via HDMI to my TV (Olevia 37" LCD), the TV doesn't detect the signal - it only shows the blue screen with "no signal" flashing around. The player works via component, and I've double checked to make sure that it isn't either the HDMI slot on the TV, or the HDMI cable. I've also tried different levels of upscaling, and none get through.

Any ideas? All advice is very much appreciated.
