I'm building myself a PC and i have a question about the amount of watts needed. My friend told me that i had to add up all the W requirments from all the components.
Theres a video card that i want and it says that a minimum of 500W is needed, and i want to get 2 of them. Does that mean i need a 1000W PSU just for the video cards??
The PSU is the only part in the computor i'm having trouble understanding

no you wont need a 1000watt psu. the minimum power is found using the entire system and not just the video card. so adding another card wont need another 500watts. you will most likely need another 100-150watts. what video cards and psu are you getting?

if i were you i would get a 4850 instead. it is a better card. you should get an x48 motherboard and use 2 4850 in crossfire instead of 2 9800gtx in sli. this psu will be more than enough

motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128336

what are the other parts you were looking at getting?

GAMING COMPUTER - Intel q9550 @ 3.4ghz | EVGA GTX 260 core 216 | Gigabyte ds3l | 6gb Gskill DDR2 800 ram | Silverstone 700 watt psu | WD 640gb hdd | Seagate 300gb hdd | LG dvd burner | Samsung dvd burner | Antec p182 case | logitech 2.1 speakers | logitech g11 keyboard | Samsung 25.5in 1900x1200 monitor | 19in 1440x900 secondary monitor | Windows 7 64bit | SERVER - Gigabyte 785g motherboard | AMD Phenom 9650 | 6gb ram | three 1.5tb hdd | Seagate 1tb hdd | WD 750gb hdd | two 300gb hdd | Maxtor 200gb hdd | Ark rackmount case | CentOS 5.5

well i was gonna get
motherboard - EVGA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
cpu - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor
RAM - OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 4096MB
Hard Drive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB

also i'm not a hardcore pc gamer, but i wanted a decent gaming machine that will last awhile. and i don't have alot to spend on the comp and i'm already a little over my price range. With extra fans and a case this will cost about +/- $1400.

srry there are no links, but i'm kinda busy over here and don't have time to get them, if u want i'll try and put them up

I should have just got u to make my pc from the beginning, lol.
but thee is only 1 problem. I'm from canada so i can't buy from newegg, the canadian site isn't up yet, and the site i buy from doesn't have some of that stuff. I get from tigerdirect.ca and i can't find the cpu or the mobo

but i did find
mobo - http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/S...7315&CatId=3646
cpu - http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/S...4440&CatId=2758

but is that other cpu i mentioned really bad because it is about $90 cheaper then the one above, and i would like to save money as much money as possible

The q6700 is a bit slower than a Q9450. If you really want to save money get a Q6600. But you also have to think in the long term. The Q9450 uses less electricity. So in the end the difference may not be that much.

Thanks, you've all been good help. I finally know what i'm getting. I used most of the parts suggested by krj5489. I can only afford 1 GPU for now, and the whole thing is $1420 canadian tax/shipping included.
