Hey, im new here, and i hope im posting in the right section.

I have a pretty serious hardware dilema at the moment, and find myself unable to solve the problem for once, so here I am, playing newb and asking for some help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the problem:

I got a virus on my PC, and there were a bunch of registry problems with my PC anyways, So i decided to format my harddrive and reinstall windows XP home pro.

So, with my PC completely wiped clean, and running much better, with a very bare version of XP running, I found that all the drivers for my GeForce6100SM-M had been lost. I also found that I had lost the CD with the drivers on them that had come with the board, so I went to the manufacturers website,

http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Product...nuID=46&LanID=0

and reinstalled all of the drivers except the LAN driver, which popped up an error message that read: "NVIDIA hardware/driver not found."

I really dont know what the problem is. I have rogers highspeed cable, and I use a Motorola SB5100 surfboard modem.

Importantly, when I go into "Network Settings" in my control panel, there are absolutely NO icons. There is no LAN icon, or internet icon, nothing at all.

one weird question I had was this: if it is true that the ethenet or LAN is not working because it is missing a driver, how were my USB and the port VGA plug for my moniter able to work?

right now im on a friend's laptop, but I direly need access to the internet for my job.

I hate to bother anyone, but I have left SEVERAL tech support forms with the manufacturer, ECS, but the support there is horrible, and they have not replied.

any help would be invaluable.

thanks!

Networking drivers are separate to chipset drivers (USB) and video drivers (Monitor). You need to find the driver for your network adapter.

im in toronto, ddp, and i guess you have rogers too?

i know that it is possible to run the modem through the USB port, but I have heard that it is unreliable and that it has a slower connection speed. I hope to resort to that only as a last resort. The guy who installed the service didnt leave me a cd or the USB wire, so ill have to go pick it up.

im sorry, im not really sure what the driver for the network adapter is, or where to get it. Any ideas would again, be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hey thanks for all your help guys,

turns out that the manufacturer of the motherboard designed the board so that the device manager would only pick up on the network adapter when the IDE driver was installed first.

thanks again
