I've been running this computer for a while now
Asus A8n-e
Athlon X2 3800+ (socket 939)
Ati x850xt - pci-16x
250g WD HD, sata3g
2g patriot ram 1gx2 dual channel

Well, my chipset fan went out, and basically I started to have alot of little problems like my onboard audio just quit being recognized as attached hardware.
I started getting these messages during bootup after a few weeks of leaving the side off my case
BOOTMGR is corrupt,.. etc.. This might show up twice or something, but a few reboots would "fix" it.

I just replaced my a8n-e with another a8n-e(this one doesn't have a chipset fan, it's got a heatsink where the fan should be). I basically just swap motherboards, and now I have no video, no beeps upon startup. The fans come on, it sounds like it's even processing data.., I started looking through the manual, and there's jumper pins for an internal speaker, I didn't have anything there before, but I thought I used to have beeps...

I've disconnected everything from the mobo besides the reset/pwr switch connecters and with just the cpu/fan and psu connected to the motherboard it does the exact same thing as with everything connected.. nothing.

" EDIT So I reinstalled my old mobo, and everything works like it used too... chipset fan doesn't turn, but after about ~10 seconds the an speeds back off a bit.. this isn't the case on the new mobo.. everything just goes into high gear and I get nothing."

was the memory still there when you disconnected every thing else? have you tried clearing the cmos jumper? edit your sig to conform to forum specs ASAP. yours is 15 lines of text.

Check power connections and reseat cards. However, since you got everything working with your old motherboard, the new one is likely DOA. Having experienced similar issues myself, your old working (ish) board is definitely on the way out and needs replacing soon. It's common with virtually all midrange Asus boards.

Sorry about the sig. :) Fixed. It's been a minute.

I did reset the CMOS, it was the 1st step I took actually.

I tried a boot with and without the memory installed, no difference.
I'm using my "old" mobo now, and really... as long as I don't turn off my computer I have no probs, except that I need to upgrade my system to AM2+ apparently because NO ONE sells 939 mobo's anymore really..

I'm packaging up the mobo now, stupid DOA.

@ Sammoris,
Thanks man, It's actually good to know that midrange asus boards just need replacing, I mean I ran it for over 2 years with a high work load and I'm happy with the performance it gave.

- Know any good 939 mobo's that compare though? I can find the Sli, but I have no need to run sli, and I'm not about to pay $100 or more for an OLD motherboard that has expensive features I don't want.

I don't unfortunately. My socket 9 Asus board has also failed and I can't find a suitable replacement, so I'm intending to upgrade that system to 775, not ideal, but my only option in the UK. In the US, you may find some second hand stuff off http://www.overclock.net forums.
