hello all....

was wondering if anyone had ne ideads for a new pc im thinking of building....im studying IT at uni and need a new pc that can handle programming, a bit of image editing and just wont lag like a piece of **** atm im running a GA-K8VM800M http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Moth...?ProductID=1919 with an AMD sempron 3000+ and 512mb of ram....so its really slow for the processing it needs to do... i was thinking of the GA-EP35C-DS3R http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Moth...?ProductID=2740 with two Western Digital 640Gb 7200RPM 16Mb SATA 2 http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/prod...ducts_id=30990=
however im unsure on what graphics, ram, cpu and psu. I went and got a quote and i was recommended a 720w PSU...do i need that much ?.. i have a ps3 so i dont do alot of gaming but a half decent graphics card wouldnt be bad i went in and asked for the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, but the store upgraded me to the Asus Extreme Radeon HD 4850. The people at the store said that the upgrade was essential as the 8800 is been phased out.....Im open for suggestions as im really unsure...THANKS IN ADVANCE

The HD4850 is a superb card, far ahead of the 8800GT, it's a good choice.
That motherboard is also excellent and will serve you well, the HDDs are also good.

For a CPU I'd recommend a Core 2 Quad Q9450 if you can afford one, a Q6600 if not. For image editing you will want multi-tasking power, and quad cores offer that in abundance.
Match this with either 2GB or 4GB of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 memory (800mhz PC6400 speed) and a Corsair HX 520W PSU - that will be ample for this system.

yeh thanks for that.....i think you might have solved my problem....epically with the psu...i didnt think i would need 720w's ...ive been looking at prices for the graphics is there anything cheaper that would produce approximatly the same output...or do you think i should make no compromises and get the HD 4850?

Also what would you recommend for a HDTV tuner card? I was looking at this one http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/prod...oducts_id=26613
but i don't know too much about them except for the fact the pci 2.0, is a must.

The nearest card to the HD4850 is the 8800GT and it's half as fast for not much less cash.
Unfortunately I don't know much about TV tuner cards, but that looks good.
