The same way you rip any other movie.
Try using DVDFab HD Decrypter. Now if you're looking to put these movies on a DVD-5 you should consider re-encoding them with DVD Rebuilder.

I use winavi to convert the movie to dvd format, then rip with winavi as well. The only thing is my dvd-r are only 120 minutes, so will it tell me to just put a new disc in? Im not even sure what DVD-5 is. Thanks for the reply though!

I have no idea what your talking about there.
How are you getting these movies to your hard drive?
Where does this converting come from?
If these are downloaded files, there is no ripping being done anywhere.
Ripping is when you stick the DVD into your pc and copy the files from the DVD to your hard drive.
Don't go by the time on the disc. Go by the capacity. You could back them up to Dual Layer discs but the single layer DVD_5 (4.7gb) discs are cheaper. A 3 or 4 hour movie will not fit on a DVD_5 disc unless it's re-encoded at a lower bitrate.

When you convert, set the size for a DVD-5 disc. When finished take a real good look at the picture quality. You may not like what you see.
Another alternative is to just buy a Divx certified DVD player and just burn the AVI files to DVD the way they are.
