Can anyone help, i'm going insane trying to rectify this problem...

I have lots of home movie footage on DVDs which when played on my DVD player displays perfectly on a samsung 37inch widescreen tv.

I have ripped these onto my PC using DVD Decypter, but when playing in Windows Media Player, they appear as a 'windowboxed' image, basically black bars not only at the top and bottom, but on the left and right too.

Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong either in the ripping process or getting WMP to display the image without this annoying effect?
