Hello,

I was trying to resolve a problem that my neighbor had with his laptop. He told me he was having problems with his keyboard. So he decided to unscrew the laptop. That's when he came by and asked for my assistance on putting it back together. Once it was done I rebooted the laptop and it had this message:

For realtek rtl8139(x)/8130/810x pci fast ethernet controller v2.13 (020326)

pxe-e61:media test failure, check cable

pxe-m0f:exiting pxe rom.

I believed he jacked up his hdd or something. I went on HP's website to get some troubleshooting info. I tried everything but that did not resolve the problem. DOes anyone have a clue what the problem may be? I think I know what it is but I want to get a second opinion. I don't why he just didn't bring the laptop over when he had the keyboard problem. It is a HP Pavilion dv1000

Thanks!

He may have messed up the hard drive from not electrically grounding himself before taking apart his computer. Sometimes static electricity from your body can really screw up the hardware in your PC if you're not very careful.

I was thinking the same thing. When I went over to his house I noticed he didn't have the ground wristband. I told him there was a possibility he probably fried something.

I believe that may be the issue for sure now. I went into the bios and tried a hdd test and it did not detect the hdd.
