I think it would be informative to have a thread for system administrators, network admins, IT guys in general talk about problems/fixes for their particular field. Servers, RAID, SQL database, networks or just other general stuff that these professions see interest me.
We have professionally orientated sites just for that kind of chat, where only members can see the discussions. ozzu being one.
I wouldn't talk about or ask questions about specific server configurations on a site overrun with script kiddies and children, and generally professional admins give sites like this a pretty wide berth.
You are probably right, I'm just in the process of turning some "basic knowledge" into a piece of paper padding my resume. For instance, just by having my A+ cert, the local community college will credit me with 2 out of the 3 classes I need for PC Tech cert with another 3 after that needed for networking tech/server setup. I dont know much Linux and not very handy with command lines yet but I have most basics down and want to do something with it ($$$)!!!
Grab an old wreck with 256 ram (mysql needs it), join ozzu and build a server.. you can do just about anything you want then ;) Best way to learn is by doing.. and theres nothing like building a linux webserver and site from scratch to teach exactly what you will be asked.. It's not so much knowing as being ready for the answers to teh questions... hehehehe.. there is $$$ from knowing how industrial process servers work.. lots of $$$ especially if you know how to handle raw unix.. bsd is fun ;)
