I'm having a similar issue to:

Disc required for the compilation: dvd +R dl

I am using dvd +r's. I am using the Nero Recode program.

Not sure why it is set for dual layer. You cannot get to the 'Burn' option page without Nero checking your data to make sure it will fit on the DVD disc you are trying to burn to so it is not a size issue.

I tried messing with the 'book-type' options but it didn't change anything.

You don't say what Nero version you are using. When you open Recode Nero 8 on the page after you decide full movie or movie only, at bottom right where fit to target is checked you probably have DVD-9 showing instead of DVD-5. DVD-9 requires the +R DL disc. If set at DVD-5 or a smaller custom setting to stay away from edge of disc say 4400, then you should be able to now use the +R disc and not the +R DL.

This is the way to unset Recode for dual layer. book typing has nothing to do with this problem.
