That depends which 500W unit. 500W unit is ample, but if it's a cheapo 500W unit, it will do anything but 'what it says on the tin' so to speak.
For high-def, you need dedicated graphics, so the X3100 is out, but you don't need anything powerful if it's not a games PC, so the 8500GT will suffice.

A PurePower will do fine, as will the 8500GT for HD video, as I say, provided youi aren't playing games on the system.
The rest of the stuff looks good, should be a pretty powerful PC.

What games are you looking to play, and how much extra are you willing to spend?

You might be able to back them up with a Bluray recorder, but you'd probably need a hacked PS3 to play them, and you can't play them on your PC.

It'll never happen, I'm afraid, the PS3 games require a Cell architecture to run, which a PC doesn't have.

For the PSU and GPU, I'd go for a Corsair HX 520W and Radeon HD4870.

for a HTPC, its best to get an antec fusion case, which come with a very good and quiet(made by seasonic) 380W earthwatts PSU, and for the mobo, a 780G, which is now being replaced by the 790GX AMD microATX mobo, and an e phenom (65W quad/tri cores which are perfect for HTPCs) or any amd athalon X2 BE series, eg Be-2XXX series chips.

the onboard GPU will fully encode/decode high def movies, and has an OCed 3450 onboard so a little gaming :)

also get a low profile quiet cooler, IMO a zalman low profile 8700 and a dedicated sound card, the ASUS DX is recommended.

520W is fine, but it has to be a decent brand unit. Thermaltake PurePowers are relatively trustworthy, but not trustworthy enough to use that much power out of them, A Corsair HX 520W can provide the 520 and actually a bit more on top, so it's a perfect PSU to use.
The HD4870 is a fabulous gaming GPU, go for it!
