I am new to using backup CD's for my xbox 360. Do I have to use Clone CD and the Kreon DVD-drive? I currently have a plextor and hp DVD burner both are capability of Burning to DVD+R DL. I also have nero for burning images as well as Alcohol 120, Power ISO and Magic ISO. Can I still accomplish my end goal using these tools?

you pretty much have to have the samsung drive flashed with the kreon FW to read your original games in order to burn them. however, you do not need clonecd to burn the games. image burn is free and works just as well.

NO, he is talking about the Samsung DVD-Rom drive you buy for your PC (Ebay). It is flashed with a firmware (Kreon) that allows it to read original Xbox 360 games to back them up, something your PC drives will not do. It is not a burners so you need both that drive and a dual layer burner.
And IMGburn is a great free program you can use instead of CloneCD

So I have to get the samsung drive in order to be able to read the DVD's for back up. There is absolutely no other way around this?

Last question and I am done. The question is can I use my current Dual Layer burners to burn the image in case something happens to the original? I currently have an HP dvd840 and a Plextor PX-1555A. Will they work with the burning process?

Any dual layer burner should work, Plextor is not rated very high as far as quality but it should still get the job done.
And if you want to back up original discs then the Kreon flashed Samsung drive is the way to go. The other method (WXripper) is a complete pain in the arse and you will spend more money on aspirin for your headaches then you would just buying the Samsung DVD-Rom drive.
