They are both black editions. The cheaper one is retail and the more expensive one is OEM. This is so weird. Just a price discrepancy on newegg's part. I would get the 180 dollar one if you already have a AM2+ motherboard. Otherwise I would get a Intel Q6600.

I assume you already have an AM2+ motherboard? Because if you don't, I'd obviously recommend the intel route.
As for the OEM CPU being more expensive, newegg still have the price from when the Phenom 9950 was originally introduced, so just ignore it, there's no benefit to the extra hundred dollars.

in the specs it says its just Phenom 9950 while in the other it says black edition in the OEM one

Says black edition for this one too...
The Black edition chips are the better ones, as they do overclock, just - among being slower, they're also consume astronomical amounts of power compared to the Intels too, so make sure you have a very good cooler, case ventilation and power supply.

I dont have an AM2+ mobo, only AM2 -_- so I should just go with intel then???

well I might go with the Q9450 but not too sure yet...300 bucks is a bit pricey but is it worth it??? I can upgrade my RAM then too, right now I have DDR2 800. my CPU cooler i have right now is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro and I have Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound so would that be good enough?? im also getting a Radeon HD 4870 then so would a 650W Corsair power supply suffice for this system???

In my humble opinion, not really. I would go with the Q6600. The Q9450 is a bit better, but not an extra hundred dollars better, if you know what I mean, so I tend to recommend those to those who have a large budget.
Your cooler will be the Freezer 64 Pro which isn't compatible with the intel platform. The Freezer 7 Pro is ironically the same cooler, but with the appropriate mounting method to attach it to an Intel system.
Your RAM is fine, and you have chosen an excellent graphics card. A 650W Corsair PSU would be ideal for this lot.

alright well I guess ill just go with the Q6600 then and Ill get the Freezer 7 Pro cooler and that mobo you suggested. thank you for your help

yea i plan on doing some OCing but how much could I OC with that processor with that cooling fan??
well according to the 1 review on newegg

im half tempted to just stick it in a mini fridge or something to keep it cool so i dont have to worry at all about over heating lol

No it wont work because a fridge can't cool continuously. When you put stuff in a fridge it cools it down to whatever temperature, then it only has to keep it there. That's not a lot of work.
With a computer, it NEVER cools to a good temperature. It keeps on PUTTING OUT heat. Eventually(few days) your fridge will just break from the strain.

So you're meant to run the drive in a fridge? LOL I thought you were just meant to put it in there to bend the drive heads and then stick it back in the PC afterwards to use!

Oh, my bad, I'm confusing threads again. I thought you meant sticking a dead HDD in a fridge - you certainly couldn't run a PC in there! For a start there's too much moisture...
