Ok, my eyes hurt from reading so many stickies and threads. I've searched but cannot find the answer. I would think this is a simple request, so maybe I'm not asking the question correctly. Here is what I want to do:
I'd like to put a disc in my drive, have a program show a timeline of the entire disc and not in chapters. For example, somewhere at the bottom it will read 00:00:00 --- 02:28:05. I want to be able to input the times I want to rip, for example, 01:20:00-01:38:00. I'd then record or rip that 18 minutes onto my hard drive and start over with another/different disc and do the same thing. After say 4 or 5 discs or 15-20 minute sections ripped, I'd like to put all those on one blank DVDr disc.
So, how do I go about doing this? I have DVDfab but can't seem to find where this is possible. I don't mind paying for another program providing it does what I need. If this is not the correct forum I apologize in advance.

DVD Shrink, Re-Author mode. You may have to rip the whole DVD to the hard drive first, though. It does let you save segments from multiple DVDs and build them onto one disk.

Dvd shrink can work with vista. You have to be logged in as administrator and run as compatability.

rut row... so I made a couple things called VOB files, apparently DVDfab does not recognize these. So I read that Nero6 is the way to go to burn these, which I have. Unfortunately Nero6 and Vista do not work together. Am I screwed?

You can use convertxtodvd to create dvd compliant files. Once completed, you can use dvd shrink to compress the files. You can also use imgburn, which is a free burner IMHO better than nero hands down.

I'm having nothing but trouble with these VOB files. I've killed 6 hours trying to figure this stuff out and I'm still at square one. Why can't there be a easier way? I simply want to cut out some stuff on multiple discs, take 10-15 minute sections of about 5 different DVDs and put it on one disc. Shouldn't be this difficult.

This is a rampant and widespread problem caused mostly by non-descriptive or insufficiently descriptive thread titles.
I understand your pain. For instance, I opened this thread to see if it would by some random chance answer my question. But of course, it did not.
A proper title for this thread would be something like: "Wanted: a Ripper That Shows Timelines, Not Chapters."
or "How Rip With Timelines, Not Chapters" etc.

@oshawa, Tom
DVD Shrink works just fine with Vista, as stated run in compatability mode ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/679509/4132877
Rip your entire disc(s) first with ripper of choice, then open DVD Shrink and follow this guide ~ http://www.dvdshrink.info/re-author-advanced.php
You can use the slider in lieu of selecting a chapter. Save as individual titles, the import them into DVD Shrink for your final compilation.
