I have been using this program for a while and just recently it has been freezing up at 2% and leaving me with nothing but coasters. Any ideas as to what is going on?

A little more info might help. I guess it is safe to say that you are also using AnyDVD in the background, is it the latest version? What, if any, error messages are you receiving? The more info you give the easier it is to help.

ferguj is spot on. Clone DVD works in reality only in tandem with Anydvd (they were made for each other) for backing up commercially made dvds (encrypted).

I assume you're talking about the burning process?

1. have you tryed a clean reinstall of clonedvd
2. make sure you are using good media like Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim or Sony burning at 6x to 8x max.
3. make sure you are burning on a clean machine(disc cleanup and defragging often) without other programs running.
4. make sure you have the most up to date firmware for your drive burner.

could be you're burner is shot!

it seems there is a burning issue.... if you are getting coasters - meaning that CloneDVD & AnyDVD did it's jog of breaking the encryptions and compressing the DVD to fit onto a DVD5 (single layer blank DVD). So the freezing up at 2% occurs when you burn and ruins a blank DVD that can't be used (COASTER). But, if you mean that the freezing up at 2% occurs while reading the SOURCE DVD (before the burning) then you have a CRC error (reading error) and you need to either clean the the DVD off so your reader has a better chance of reading the DVD so CloneDVD and AnyDVD can do it's thing and work or you have a bad press and need to bring back the DVD to the store for replacement! Which is it? error at burning or error at reading!? more information is needed. If it is burning error you can follow ZoSoIV's advice.... and I would go one step further: Burn to the HARD DRIVE instead of the disk! then see if the DVD on the hard drive works! If so then CloneDVD did it's job and you can burn with ImgBurn to disk by BUILDING then WRITING! If it doesn't burn with this burning software then you have a problem with either the disk or the burner!

It is during the burning process that it stops at 2%. I have just been using DVD Fab to rip and burn right now as a backup method. It works great and I usually fall back on it when Clone/AnyDvd cannot do the job. So I know my burner is fine. I also tried to do DVDShrink & Nero but it only burns a DVD with that that can be read on the computer only, not the DVD player ( or xbox 360 in my case ). Don't know what is up with that either. I haven't yet tried to reinstall DVD Clone. I suppose that would probably work for a little while because I seem to remember having this problem in the past and doing that to fix it. Just wondered why it keeps doing that ever so often. I really like the ease of using AnyDVD/Clone when I can. But here lately while I have been pretty much forced to use DVDFab for everything, it hasn't been quite so bad as far as time used from start to finish. I guess it is not too bad of a problem, I just hate to have those programs not in working order you know? They have been so good to me over the years. :-)

you seem to be the only one that has a problem with AnyDVD & CloneDVD. Must be something with your system that is in conflict. Who knows. anyway..... if DVDFab Platinum or Gold works then I really don't understand why AnyDVD & CloneDVD doesn't! but with Nero burning and you can't watch on your XBox.... then it must be a media problem because:

there are plenty of reasons why certain media brands won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
*******5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.)Taiyo Yuden is the only brand I use! Verbatim is also top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch! Using quality media that is most recognized by players/recorders stop MANY problems like the ones you are getting!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.

I too have been using ANYDVD and CLONEDVD2 for a long time with excellent results until very recently.C

I removed and reinstalled both program to earlier releases; no good
updated to latest versons and still no good
tried other apps for ripping and burned with CLONE - nope.

Are there settings in Clone to change the burn rate?

As far as any thing I did - I made no changes to the PC except for windows upgrades that I believe could have this afect.

This is an HP Pavilion laptop

Thanks for your help

you don't say what the problem is transcoding? burning?

and you payed for both programs and have the key codes right?

laptops can cause problems backing up DVDs you could have a hardware problem or conflicting software problem with the preloaded crap they put on Dells,HPs etc. and yes you can adjust the burn speed in clonedvd in the drop down box look below. remember to use good media like Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim or Sony burning at 6x to 8x max ,low grade media can cause problems. here is a guide to use clonedvd + anydvd

Mine is a HP Pavilion as well but i dont think that has anything to do with it. Try getting DVD Fab Platinum 4. I am using that now and have had no problems with anything so far.. (knock on wood). It does suck to not have your programs working but, at least DVDFab is pretty fast and efficient.

if DVDFab Plat is working then why isn't CloneDVD & AnyDVD NOT? It doesn't make sense!

I know. I will reinstall clonedvd tomorrow and update on if that cures it or not. kind of reluctant to risk another coaster doing so but, for the sake of this thread, ill try it.
