Hi
Can Anyone tell me if the question of speed of AVI to DVD conversion has been covered in this forum. I have no doubt it probably has, but 234+ pages.?

I would like to know what users reckon the fastest conversion program is.
I have DVD Santa, works OK but I think it is slow.
Are there others which are quicker.?

Thanks Wooduck

the speed of converting from one format to another is MOST of the time NOT determined by the programs used.... it's how fast your computer is! So what is your computer specs and what can be done to your computer to make it faster?

There are two players in this game...ConvertXtoDVD ($$$) and DVD Flick (free). As IHOE stated the speed is solely dependant on the speed of your machine. My old P4 would convert with either of the above mentioned programs in about an hour and a half. My new system (quad core) only takes 20 minutes with either program.

Thanks Ihoe & Locoeng
I don't have a real super machine. I know there are far faster machines than mine, but unfortunately I am a retired 75yo pensioner.!!
Can only afford what I have got!!
But I have an HPa4060a With Vista Home Premium, intel dual core 3.2Ghz
32 bit, 3GbRam.
I have aged with computers right from the days of Commodore etc. No slouch, but barely keeping up with the trends.
I have a P5 mother board, so I don't think I can get much better PCU than what I have, (or can I) without changing the board.
Any ideas of what I can do with what I have got. or shall I go out and buy a new board and a quad core.?

Thanks for your help, I will try both the suggested progs, and see how much difference it kakes.

A 3.2 GHz dual core should be plenty. How much time is it taking? Like I said, my old P4 2.4 machine took 1.5 hours, surely your should be at least twice as fast using the programs I mentioned.

Hi Locoeng
I haven't relly timed it with Santa, I know it seems to take forever, and estimate about 1.5 - 2.0 hrs.

I haven't tried your recommendations yet, but I will download the freebe first and see how that compares.

Thanks Wooduck

Hi Locoeng
I timed Flick doing a 698Mb movie. I found it easy to use, didn't bother with setting anything different, just a straight conversion.
Time taken 72Min.
I am going to do the same movie with Santa, just out of interest, they seem to be on a par with each other, but of course Flick is free.
I will keep you posted if you would like.?
