today i just purchased a brand new ps2 slim, and when i opened it up to mod it(no mod chip/i'm using swap magic) i noticed the button that sits to the back left of the laser is no longer there. you need to tape/glue that button down to get the ps2 to read the swap magic discs and backups. Is there anyway to mod this new design so it can read my swap magic discs?

Or is he talking about the new SCPH-90001 PS2.
Some models of 79001 have the sensor to tape down, and some don't have it.
If it doesn't have it, just block the other 2, and start PS2 with disk in. If its still spinning your good to go.

has it been proven yet that covering the 2 sensors (considering the 3rd sensor is not visible) of the ps2 lets you use the swap disk on the SCPH 90001? i just want confirmation before i buy the Swap Disk/Magic Switch v4 =]

I haven't heard yet anything about the sensors.
But I know a fellow has installed fmcb 1.6 on mc and it works with this model using ESR to boot backups.

Does this method work with imports? The only reason i bought a ps2 was to play imports =P

You may have to first back up your import disk to ISO, then burn the image.
But then yes it should work.
I play PAL, JP on my NTSC using ESR
I don't have to patch my PAL games for y-fix or color either as I use a PS2 component cable with my HDTV

SCPH-90001? 79000 is the one with half of the board on the left side. And the 900001 is the newer one with the board on the right side, with the lens on top of the mobo, n a built in power supply, on the left? I've heard the look has kinda changed too. Or am i thinkin of another model? havent personally seen pos2s newer dan 79000s

The SCPH 9000X series started in Japan first. The SCPH 90001 arrived in the states at the end of August. Wal Mart has them.
They are what they call the new Super slim, smaller than the previous slim.
I have only seen them on the net.

Perhaps I'll take my chances with the Magic Switch tools/Swap Magic disks specifically designed for the 9000X series. If it doesnt work then hey, lesson learned and money wasted =P

Just curious if you have bought the new ps2 and tried fmcb or swap magic on it.

Cool, I am sure it will work. FMCB 1.7 or 1.8 does work on these models if the date code 8b, if its 8c it will not work.
But will await to hear from you, even if its after Christmas.
Good luck

You will know if you installed them correctly when you put a disk in the PS2, lift the lid, the disk should still be spinning.

Ok well if TOOL "A" is not properly in place it will reset the PS2.
You may just have to play around with the TOOL's a bit until you have it.
It takes a bit of time and patience but I am sure you will get it.
Hope you get it working.

alright, so i properly installed tool "A" on my SCPH 90001 SS ps2. The thing is, I can't find any of the other sensors. However I'm able to load the swap magic disk without closing the lid. It loads and at Swap magic's main screen, the disk stops spinning. So I take it out and swap it out for Narutimate Hero 3. It says it is not a valid ps2 disk.

installing tool "D" is what puzzles me. I opened up my ps2 and saw that there was nothing to cover with the tool. It's just a hole where the screws were screwed out.
