Hello everyone. I am new here. First time poster long time lurker. I was curious as to if anyone could suggest a reliable source for ip block lists for use with ip blocking software such as peergaurdian2. Is peergaurdian2 no longer an active project? I'm going to assume it no longer is being developed and due to its open source nature, i'm sure there is something like it or better floating around out there.

The reason i ask is because I'm obviously trying to avoid having my ports scanned by particular ip addresses associated with particular companies for privacy reasons. I am currently using the last stable version of azureus bit torrent client before it went into the beta stages and turned into what we all now know as azureus/vuze.

I received two notifications from my isp for downloading content via bit torrent. I would like to continue using bit torrent with receiving another threat or legal action. Please advise

PeerGuardian is still in development, a new version for Vista was recently released, I think. RC 2 but still a beta. Nothing is going to be 100% and PG isn't but as good as there is. You could look to Protowall if not on Vista or utorrent and Vuze (Azureus) have built in ip blockers you can add that work in Vista. Or SafePeer in Azureus which is different from that in Vuze, don't know about it on Vista.

vuze works the same on fista as it does on xp.. it's a java app so is as platform independent as anything which needs hardware acess to ports can be. Read their wiki as there are some fista things you need to be aware of..

Blocklists are maintained by bluetack.. at whatever address they are at these days and updated every 7 days.. not 100% secure.. you would do far better avoiding whatever trackers you were using when you got caught.

If the letters were actually ISP generated then your best bet is to only download legal stuff (lots of linux iso's are distributed by torrent) for a while till you drop off their radar, or change isp..(that will send them a hell of a message.. especially if you shout about it all over their forums) or just give up for now until the world changes and we get fully encrypted torrents as standard.

thanks for the info im just interested in researching this technology more before i decide to get back into the mix. Will investigate further into the options you presented. I was using abc (due to its simplicity) on vista and it was working quite well. I think the amount of bandwidth i was consuming probably was obvious...hence why I received that letter. Once again thanks

I've noticed that on both occasions i was caught by using trackers that had tons of seeds. I'm sure if I stick to more low key trackers (with less seeds) that will help. My main interest in bit torrent is finding rare and obscure content that often falls between the cracks. My biggest fault in my downloading habits was going for main stream stuff published by big companies.

I recently joined the forums over at phoenix labs but the threads seemed dead and outdated. I thought it the project was no longer in development when I downloaded the client and it could not contact servers to update it's ip block lists. I guess i was just jumping to conclusions prematurely? I'm also quite aware of the fact that no ip blocking program or list will be %100 effective or accurate but I think coupled with careful downloading and keeping my activity low key it will help me to continue searching for the things I like to download.

I also would like to have some kind of counter measure to tighten security on my desktop without hindering my functionality. Any websites or tutorials you would like to suggest?

Kind of off topic but........ not sure if you use soulseek but has anyone noticed that the site is down?
