Ok,im upgrading an older computer, lets says its 9 years old.I'm at the last stage when you install, the operating system,MS Xp..However i can get my cmos/bios to recognize my hard drive. But when i do a clean install of Windows xp(booting from my cd-rom first)it sees my hard drive and asks me what to do..I basicly delete the current partition and make a new one, then i start the process of installing Xp..Now i'm past the part where it installs all them drivers first. Then it goes to install the xp files. When its at the part where it configures the files,it does and then it reboots in 15 seconds, and the screen reads if you have a floppy in,remove it..I dont of course..When it reboots, since i have my computer boot from the cd-rom,it does and the whole re-installation starts over again...I never had this problem with xp..SO,i would appreciate and help on this matter, which would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,its a AMD K6 or something like that..I know,XP might not be compatible with it but if i can't recognize my hard drive in bios, why is it that when i do a clean install, its finds it just fine..I have an older bios, where you have to enter all the stuff manually for your hard drive,or you can enter auto..The auto setting doesnt work for me.I fixed many computers but not like this..Thanks in advance for your help.

the k6 series weren't made for xp & is missing a cache level on the cpu thereby not allowing xp to finish install. even the early p2's have that problem. check board manufacturer for possible bios update to recognise larger drives but doubt you will find 1.

Hello again.Yeah, XP did pick up the card and yes i do have a router but im still not getting a signal to the pci wireless card.I thought since its a cheaper card, that i got in defective.I went to staples and picked up a good one..Xp detected it but i could not install the software from the disc..So now im figuring since i only have a 400Mhz computer, its not compatible..So now,i just thinking of junking this shitty motherboard and purchase another one but i need one that supports sdram pc100 ram.I also been looking around for combo motherboards,i dont need an expensive one, just one so my wife can check her mail and stuff like that, since mine i use hard everyday.Ok,enough rambling.I think my motherboard is a Micro ATX,the measurements are 9 7/8 x 8 3/4.How can i determine that size in Millimeters, since all this websights describe them like that..As always, thanks for your help in advance.

Yeah,i would like to keep the same ram.I been looking on Ebay for boards and came across this one,i know it takes different ram but i can take back some of the sdram i bought at bestbuy yesterday.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...:MEWA:IT&ih=004

I like it because its a combo and the fact that i can put in a bigger hard drive then what i would have in my AMD K6.

you are going to have to replace your power supply as needs 4-pin ATX 12V power supply connector besides the 20 pin power connector.

Hello again.Well i have everything i need, motherboard w/ cpu combo, ram and a new power supply.I have everything installed but i get no juice when i power up my computer..However i think i know what is wrong.I have the case switches and indicator LED'S backwards i suppose..If you dont have the power switch on the right header,it wont power up i guess? What i mean is that i found where i should put all these,it its labeled SW1 header in the user's guide. This is a 10 pin header, but it only has 9 pins, this is correct according to the picture in the guide.

I have these 5 to connect to my motherboard.
DC SW
Reset SW
Hdd Led
Comm Led
Power Led

How do i know if i'm putting the + and - , the correct way. What i did notice is that, the power led is a little thicker and 3 holes on the plug. Thanks again for your help.

I tried doing that but no luck. Here is the diagram in which thee plugs should go...

1 HD_LED_P(+) 2 FP PWR/SLP(+)
3 HD_LED_N(-) 4 FP PWR/SLP(-)
5 RESET_SW_N(-) 6 POWER_SW_P(+)
7 RESET_SW_P(+) 8 POWER_SW_N(-)

did you plug the 4 pin connector in besides plugging in the 20 pin connector? is the voltage switch on back of the psu set correctly to your location?

I think it could be my power supply..I plugged my computer into an outlet, instead of plugging my 4 pin and 20 connector into my motherboard,i used a digital multimeter and a voltage detecter on the connectors,no juice what so ever..I have juice going into my PSU but not coming from my connecters..Is this a valid way to determine,if my power supply works? I'm just ready to take it to someone to look at it..I know i have everything hooked up right, except for the power switch and led indicators..As always, thanks for your continued support.

Go over the front panel connectors again carefully. A board of that type usually has a led on it somewhere which lights up when the "always on" 5v standby power is applied... though some don't.

this may help.. http://www.helpwithpcs.com/courses/power...inc-pinouts.htm

you may need drivers too ;) http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWebSite/Dow...enuID=0&LanID=0

I was looking for the mobo connections overlay.. I may just have one of these boards at home, but I'm away.. have a browse of the second link for a manual ;)
