First off here is what I want to do. I want to take all my movies remove all protection from my DVD?s so I can compress them to around 700MB each in .avi format and store them all on my M-Vix player. That?s it, I?m not looking to make copies or anything I just want to put all my movie on one device.

I download one movie from the web. It was a new movie and was in .avi and compressed to 700MB. The movie would not play on my window media player? but did play on VLC media player. So I put it on the M-Vix 5000r. Hooked it up to my TV and it played perfectly! No problems and great quality.

So I did a bit of research and spent 16 hours downloading some of my DVD?s to my computer and compressing them to 700mb .avi. All of them worked when I played them in my window media player. That should have been my first clue that something was wrong I guess, because the one from the Internet didn?t work on that player.

The movie ?21? the audio didn?t match with the movie and I tried three times to rip compress and play never worked together. So someone said you have to get rid of the protection on the movie because its new or something. So I download another software and it still didn?t work.

Giving up on the movie 21 I decided to take the 7 movies that worked on windows media and move them to the M-Vix player and watch them. Unfortunately after I moved them to the player I deleted all the movies from my computer because one file was in VOB format and .avi of each movie and taking up all my space.

Not one of the movies that I rip worked on the M-Vix player! Got a little bit of sound at first with no picture then it froze the device. I restarted the player and started the other movie that someone else ripped and compressed. It worked fine. So it must be me.

Here is all the crap that I have downloaded -

DVD43 ? running in the back ground to make the dvd useable I guess?
DVD shrink 3.2
FreeDVD
AutoGK
AVS Video Converter 6
Nero
Vegas Pro 8 ? Just something I have had when I learned to take my pictures and make dvd movies with them
DVD architect

Like I said, I just want to take all my movies and compress them store them and watch them all on my M-Vix player. But the more I read the more I see you need a software to do this to the dvd first then a software to rip then compress the convert? Is this right?

If someone could point me in the right direction where this process can be explained with ease, plain English, pictures, and examples. Some instructions that I can print and follow. Using freeware or using what I already have too. That would be great.

Thank you for any help!

Get Rid of DVD43 (Crappy Program)

To add to Mr. Berryone's good advice, dvd43 is a very crappy program. If all you want to do is main movie only, then all you need is dvdfab decrypter and AutoGK. Here is a link to converting dvd files to avi.

@Chris8116

I Just Noticed that You have "Free DVD" Downloaded If you Got this From http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm The Program to download is where it says Download 5.0.9.8 Beta (September 25, 2008) It Is Free as Well and is the Ripper you Need to Rip The movie to Your HDD. I Hope This Doesn't Confuse you More. And iwould try RTM's suggestion to convert using autogk

Okay, I downloaded DVDfab. I put in the move super troopers ran FreeDVD on it then ran DVDfab. Now it is in AutoGK being compressed and converted into .avi. I hope it will work on my M-vix player. I will know in 2 hours!

As for DVD43. I can?t uninstall it. I did read a thread that said you have to close it out first. The problem is when I go to the control panel it is not in my list of programs. Anyway, I just turned it off.

I'm not sure what free dvd is, as I haven't heard of it. You don't need to run it before you use dvdfab, as dvdfab is updated regularly to handle tougher encryptions.

To get rid of DVD43, you can use a program such as ccleaner which not only has an uninstaller to remove programs, but can also remove all traces of the programs it deletes, to make sure all traces are removed.

Thanks bones. I read it on my mobile while I was heading home from work. I had to get a couple things done before I could get back online.

@Chris8116

If you are in the U.S. or Canada, then free dvd is not needed, as those films are already region 1.

Dont worry about having 299 movies to go. I have close to 1,000 and I am just a bit over 2/3 thru backing them up.

A 1,000 wow! I was doing the math and I think it will take me 65 day to finish all of them if I keep on top of it. My goal is to have 300 movies and 25,000 songs on my M-Vix player. So far I have 5 movies and 3,100 songs.

Oh, this might be a good place to ask if anyone knows where I could get my hands on about 20,000 song. I have exhausted my friend?s CD collocations... and getting songs one by one off the net is very slow.

Again, thanks for the help everyone!

I have been working on mine for almost 3 years now. Work, stuff around the apartment, and me buying more dvd's is making my job hard.

Well, all the places I know to get songs are online....some sites I am not allowed to mention, as it's against forum rules....*cough cough* they end in wire *cough cough*....

Chris, I am just getting started with a similar project but was wondering why you chose AVI instead of mpeg or some other format? Any idea what video resolution you might be achieving by doing this conversion? Thx!

I can't help with that question myself as all my machines have the K-Lite Mega Codec pack anyway, i've been swearing by K-Lite for longer than i can remember. I don't however manually load or install any other codecs..

@ creaky
When I install this k-lite mega pack, is there a bunch of confusing options, or do I just let it do it all.
THANKS

For anyone who cares, AXXO and other "scene" rippers use the open source "VirtualDubMod" software to convert DVD's to those 700mb avi files. The freeware "gspot" will show you the software and settings he uses.

Okay guys...

I have rip and moved 30 movies to my M-Vix player but a hand full of them are messed up. The Video and the audio are off by a few hairs. Why does this happen and how do I stop it?
