A lot of people are against copying DVD's on-the-fly because of the risk of transferring errors!!! If you transfer the DVD to Hard drive then from Hard Drive to Blanc DVD, arent we doubling the chances of transferring read errors?? Just how risky is Copying on the fly. I have done about 20-30 on the fly and i have not noticed any bad results at all so far!!!

It's not a matter of copying errors over.
If the original has a scratch or is dirty and the reader has to go over it a few times to get the information then the copy will just fail.
With the price of DVD media it's a question of economics.

Agreed but it does depend on your set-up also to a certain degree. I used to be able to copy every disc on the fly in Nero 5.5.10 series but with Nero 6 only get about a 50% success rate and it's not the discs. It's much better to untick the 'on the fly' option now so the files are uploaded to HD first - I have a 0% failure rate then and you are quite right, coaster discs soon mount up to a hole in your pocket..

For my ps2 backup, keeping in mind ive only made about 6 so far, but i use on the fly with Nero 6 and have yet to have a problem. Wouldnt having buffer under run protection, give you a better success rate with on the fly.

I know whenever i tried to make a cd with my old Liteon CD-rw whenever i didnt press Buffer Under Run protection with CDrWin it would coaster

Im afraid i dont understand that point. Remember when copying to a hard drive you are doing a bit-for-bit copy, so it will be exactly the same quality as what is on the disc. Then burning to a new disc should be fine. The problems that occur with copying on the fly can be dependent on varying factors, such as whether or not the DVDROM and DVDWriter are on the same IDE channel, whether their read/write speeds are compatible, whether your system resources will allow it without a break in burning, etc..
