Trying to played burned games without SM (with mc boot ?)

Recently i learned that u can get burned games to work on a ps2 without a SM and use a MC BOOT program on ur MC. which is kool of course. and my friend keeps borrowing my SM 3.6 so i need to figure something out so i can play my games! i gotz to play my ddr...
anyway.
I got MC boot 1.7 installed on the memory card i even put a SM 3.6 elf file IN the memory card so i could boot off that and just boot the game...but i guess that didnt work >_>
any help here?
also i have a fat ps2, and i believe it has a hard drive. maybe i can use the hard drive insted of the memory card?

Did you patch the game iso with esr before you burned it?
When you use free mcboot you have to patch the iso for it to work.
