Hey, I'm really new to ”torrent. Once you're finished downloading the torrent how do you use it? Like what program or how do I execute it?

What format are the files, probably rars that need extracting, here's a guide for Winrar: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/248020 not free but this link worked last I checked: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r1896091...-nonupgradeable Install Winrar, save the key to your desktop and right click it. I doubt this version run's on Vista. Edit: are you speaking of the torrent file itself, just save it to your desktop or wherever and open it and utorrent should start downloading it.

Hi bit of a noob at downloading

I use Super torrents to d/load to Utorrent.

But when a download is finished d/loading it drops down to seed. Unfortunately it does not upload as it comes in a winrar? or a condensed form and u torrent doesnt seem to know how to upload it.

I need to upload to keep my download/seed ratio high?

Any ideas on what to do?

WinRar is just a program that has nothing to do with utorrent save about 90% of the files downloaded are in the rar format. Are your downloads being moved after completion and utorrent can't find them? Check in options>preferences>?, not sure if utorrent has that option or not. They have to stay in the same folder they downloaded to to seed. You can unrar them and move the result. If not that, same thing started happening to me and the only solution was a different client.

Not to butt in but utorrent has its own port checker at options>speed guide, green if it's open, red if it's not.

Same thing in Vuze, port check at Tools>NAT/Firewall test. Check at Tools>options>files>completion/moving. If that is enabled to a different folder, you won't be seeding completed files.

Downloads are fine d/l speed at approx 250kb/sec
Upload does not wok properly when its in a winrar file. I have normal avi files uploading(not in winrar type) and they upload no problem.

Never heard of a Winrar error in any bittorrent client. Do you have any firewall including Windows that needs to set Vuze as an exception, a router that need's forwarding, a modem that has a firewall, check at Portforward for router's or modem's. Check your ISP here for throttling: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs and a lot more than this do, so name it if you don't see it. Try a port over 50,000, did you see this in utorrent. A different client may be needed. Have a look at this jpg too and see if there is anything there: http://www.plucky.org/component/option,c...le,torrent.jpg/ By the way, what is your connection speed for your ISP, 250 kB (I assume kB which Vuze show's) is pretty good.

No as some downloads work fine from vuze

My isp is upc

Try a port over 50,000,

Tried it, it keeps timing out. I'm using it wirelesslydid you see this in utorrent. A different client may be needed. Have a look at this jpg too and see if there is anything there: http://www.plucky.org/component/option,c...le,torrent.jpg/

Dont know what this is? By the way, what is your connection speed for your ISP, 250 kB (I assume kB which Vuze show's) is pretty good.
I'm on a 3mb line when downloading a tv show of about 350mb, it takes about 25-30 mins and hovers around 200 - 300kb downloadind

Im currently uploading 3 files

2 that i have downloaded from supertorrents are in a winrar type and are not uploading Basically they only upload a tiny bit 552kb has uploaded

1 that i have downloaded from some other site is a .avi file and is not in a winrar state is uploading to beat the band, about 20 to 40kb/sec

I think that the problem is the way the supertorrents have the file. Vuze/azurreus know how to download the winrar file but when it drops to upload it doesnt seem to be able to upload. :(

That jpg is only a picture guide through unblocking your connection. If this is your ISP, appears they block at least one site: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/709224 Don't have a clue on the Winrar files or why the port over 50,000 times out. Try disabling UPnP at Tools>options>plugins>UPnP and if you can, connect directly not wirelessly. I use port 34450 so I know it works and also have a 3 Mb DSL connection and max out at around 352 kB. If you're on Cable, that might explain the speed difference, good speed for being blocked somehow but no upload on completion sure kill's a ratio on private sites, utorrent started doing that to me on all files, maybe they were all rars. If these are from private sites, is DHT off but don't know why that would only affect your seeding. Edit: try enabling Protocol Encryption at Tools>options>connection.

Just my two cents worth...

For extracting RAR files, or just about any compressed file for that matter, I recommend ExtractNow. It's simple, versatile, and best of all, free! You can easily configure it to extract files automatically, etc.

One other note: If you are sharing anything of questionable legality via bit torrent, or any other P2P client, you should be running some kind of filter, such as PeerGuardian. It runs in your task tray and doesn't interfere with anything except to block known litigation-happy groups such as MPAA, RIAA, Business Software Alliance, etc. from tracking your IP address.

Good link, I could have been clearer. While Winrar isn't free, that version I mentioned is (3.51) and completely legal and can be fully registered. Good if you need to use compression.
