Hi to everyone,
does anyone can explain me how to convert a .TS file to .mkv?
I'm using ProjectX to demux and after I run MKVtoolnix to finish the job, but the output file is not played with WMP but only with mplayer.
Of course I have ffdshow+haali Media Splitter installed and I'm sure that I can play all .mkv coming form a couple of friends of mine.

Hope someone will help me.

P.S.
the funny think is:
if I do NOT add the audio track to MKVtoolnix, WMP is able to play it!

Perhaps WMP does not like the audio format - what it is?

Hi,
the audio format is mp2; the one that came form the ProjectX's de-muxing phase.
But I don't think WMP doesn't like the audio because the only thing I can hear is the audio.

Why are you trying to put mpeg-2 into an MKV?
Why not just create an mpg file?

I'm talking about standard mpeg files:

I've never seen m2v/mp2 files inside an MKV before, so I tried
it and was able to get it to work just fine using MKVmerge gui.

Perhaps the problem is in the .ts file. Did it demultiplex properly?
Beyond that, I can't think of any anything else.

Hi and thanks for your replay,
may be the problems is all in mine PC.
In fact if I ask GSpot to list all my codecs and filters I can find one problem (highlighted in red). It's about Mpeg2, hear it is:

DSH MPEG2_VIDEO WS Mpeg2 Dec {3296804B-99B0-4147-93C7-762A8DA8027D} 0x00500010 ** File Missing:

What do you think it does it means and in case how can fix that missing file?.

This CLSID seems to be related to
WS Mpeg2 Dec
Filename: C:\Program Files\Aimersoft\Video Converter\WS_Mpg2Dec.ax
CLSID: {3296804B-99B0-4147-93C7-762A8DA8027D}

Have you installed this video coverter? Try reinstalling it and check
again. If it doesn't work, you may need to get hold of an mpeg-2
decoder. Only Vista home premium and Vista ultimate have them built-in.

Another solution is to install VLC. It uses it's own internal
code to play the files (and many more)

Hi davexnet, you're perfectly right!
I was installed that program before and it was just a leftover registry key.
With the help of jv16 Power Tools I carefully removed all the entries with that value {3296804B-99B0-4147-93C7-762A8DA8027D} and now the GSpot "red" problems disappeared.

But sorry if I ask you little more.
Have you an idea about this my last GSpot red highlight?

It's probably another orphaned registry entry.

According to some info I found on the internet, that DLL is part of the
VFAPIconv package. It's mentioned on this page:

right, in fact I have that like a part of DVD2SVCD program.
I'm not sure but it appear to be ok.

But which key should I remove?

Just leave it as it is - it's not doing any harm.
Don't touch anything to do with quartz.dll because you'll risk damaging
directshow stuff.

Do you have xvid installed ? Try running the vidc cleaner.

hi,
of course I have xvid installed. I use one of the latest Koepi's version. I launched the utility you are talking about but the problems is still there.
In any case, I'll follow your advise and I'll give up with that bloody key. I agree with you it's doing nothing wrong to my system. It's too silly (and too dangerous) wast my time around it.
