How do I rip DVDs to .avi?

I'm a novice obviously and I can't seem to get avi format out of Nero. What is a good software for ripping DVDs into .avi?

Rip the DVD to a folder on the hard drive using 'DVDFab HD Decrypter'.

Run AGK and input 'VTS_01_1.IFO' from the ripped 'VIDEO_TS' folder.
Choose an output path.
Choose a custom size for the AVI: e.g. 1.4GB for a two hour movie.
Click 'Add Job' then 'Start'.

Note:
'VTS_01' is usually (not always) the main title.

You can open additional Titles and 'Add Job' to the queue, then start.
AGK does quality work and it's best to let it run overnight.

Why not try software called SPAM Converter? I found this program by accident when I serf on the internet.
It worked perfectly on my computer. SPAM Converter can rip or convert your videos with high quality of output files.. And I would agree that SPAM Converter is super fast & reliable.

wassup guys, im having trouble converting the dvd to avi..i use DVDFAB, on the left side panel under "DVD to DVD" i click the "main event" option..after it is done ripping the dvd, i go to the folder where the ripped dvd is saved in, the go to the Video_TS folder..the movie is divided into 5 (.VOB) files and sum other files too..i dont really know how to use AGK..can someone help me out to do the conversion..thanks

thanks rtm27..the link u showed me worked great..another question, is there a way i can make the .avi to be dvd exact quality and still be in the 700mb for a less than 2 hours movie..thanks again in advance guys...
