Thanks for the info bro. I have to retrieve this one from my managers office, as the mail came when I was at work today. It should be a snap to do. I have the 2-disk version waiting for me.

Usually, in my experiances, movie only usually always works.I guess protection is early on in the dvd, like previews menus etc.
Try ripping full movie and you may have problems as most reported in clubcdfreaks dvdfab forum.

Curious why folks still use dvddecryptor and dvdshrink when they are both outdated and absolutely do not have alot of new protection scheme bypasses.

No problem with this one at all. Latest dvdfab, fixvts, dvd shrink, imgburn process worked great.

Second disk had the special features. Second disk was less than 2GB in size.

Sorry to go off topic, but why fixvts and dvdshrink in the process?

DVDFab didn't always produce the cleanest rips. This has hopefully been addressed now - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/711291/4330143

..i personally use vobblanker to cleanup but it's the same difference as FixVTS

Thanks
Upon searching the forums I found out why.
I was under the impression all this was fixed in dvdfab now.

It should be, though i haven't had any discs play up since the link i posted. There used to be a time that i had to run ALL DVDfab-ripped discs thru vobblanker as the rips would cause hours of encoding in DVD Rebuilder to be wasted.
Example link re this - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/589662/3566757 - 'Improved DVD structure cleaning' was added to DVDFab back then. Since then i've only had a few problem with unclean rips - Laurel and Hardy boxset and Battlestar Galactica season 4 are all that spring to mind since then. (For Laurel and Hardy i used ye olde worlde DVD Decrypter as it ripped the discs 100% cleanly).

It may have been fixed now, but using fixvts after dvdfab is a process I have added back in may. I began using it as some suggested it produced a cleaner rip. I did notice the output files were usually a few MB's smaller, so I kept it in. Since then, I've kept it in, and probably won't change it.

Yeah, i must admit, if i experience even 1 more problem with unclean rips i'll just revert to using vobblanker as an extra step after all DVDab ripping..

Regardless, I will continue to use VobBlanker in the process. I use it to get rid of the extras (previews and other junk)that I don't want on movies where I want to keep some things (certain special features and menus) in addition to the main feature. On movies where I plan to keep movie only I use FixVTS just as rtm27 does.

I just had the strangest thing happen to me

I did my usual dvdfab-vobblanker-rebuilder combo and nero 7 failed to open the resulting file. It seemed to take longer than usual and when it hit 100% nero froze. Nero wouldn't display any info and it seemed to hang up right when it was analyzing the extras before the file size/length is displayed.

I tried running it through fixvts, restarting my pc and still the same result. I know that nero still works because I burned a separate movie just before and after this happened trying to narrow down what the problem was. In a last ditch effort I downloaded imgburn and burned a successful fully functional copy.

Seeing the myriad of options and the depth of this simple program puts nero to shame. If the quality scans hold up I don't think I'm ever going back.

The only thing I can think of that made nero fail with this movie is the weird and rather annoying way they decided to insert the minute and a half of deleted scenes. That and 109 segments that rebuilder broke the movie up into, that?s the most I?ve seen in any movie using rebuilder.

Sounds like you should ditch Nero for imgburn - i only keep Nero around for burning multiple concurrent copies of things, anything that only needs one copy goes into imgburn by default.

109 segments?.. that's a lot seeing as the maximum for any one vts is 99, and probably why nero threw a wobbler.

As for quality scanning... Because the program has lower overheads it in theory should do a better job than nero. My experience with xbox games (picky things) is imgburn will burn a good copy where nero will fail a few times, or make glitchy disks.
I'm not a fan of quality scanning anyway.. I think that media quality and burner condition have far more to do with the output than the software used to burn the disk. Best scans I have seen have come from cdrecord run dao from the command line... so watch the cpu overheads while burning.

come to think of it, all the xbox games i'd burnt were via imgburn, didn't even think to use Nero.

Hear, hear (or should that be here, here, i dunno) ..quality scanning is much overrated, any decent upstanding movie-burner should be spending time watching them instead of ogling colourful media graphs :)

edit- just posted a similar reply here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/716233/4353290

I'll second that re cpu overheads during burning, i only ever had burning problems (not counting genuine media errors or the one time i had a burner dying on me) on slower machines due to multitasking ie the flow of data to the burn would be interrupted. However on the Quad core i can now multitask out the wazoo, i often burn while running Dvd Rebuilder, ConvertXtoDVD and DVD Flick at the same time. (Don't try this at home folks!).

I thought the 109 segments in rebuilder were strange to, especially when the first 8 or 9 appeared about 10 seconds apart from each other. The progress bar didn't move past 0.0% until about the 10th one.

I'm only doing quality scans now for when I use really bad media for movies that friends want to borrow (I refuse to hand out my ty's). That and seeing how well my drives can burn at full speed/overburning. Bad media is disposable if necessary especially when I don't see the copy again for a month and comes back scratched and covered in mysterious substances ;0.

I simply can't do multi-tasking when burning, processing, ect... after I'm done using rebuilder there's noticeable lag and I swear I can hear my pc wheezing.

@creaky think you could tell me where I can find a flux capacitor to run rig like that lol.

It's nothing too special, just a Q6600 with 4GB of Ram (obviously XP 32-bit only sees something like 3.4GB but i'm cool with that). Of course this is extreme multitasking so all the above take a bit longer to run than they would if run alone but the most important thing is that there is no corruption/pixelation in any of the encodes, nor are there any problems with the burns.
I use DVD Rebuilder with the awesome (& free) HC Encoder so HC utilises all 4 cores. If i recall correctly, Rebuilder itself has the ability to use multiple threads but i can't remember exactly how that works off the top of my head.
DVD Flick is multi-thread capable, but not true multi-core capable, but it's better than nothing. And i'm using version 2.x of ConvertXtoDVD and that's not multi-anything capable, but again it runs well enough. p.s. i always run Flick and ConvertXtoDVD at their highest priorities.

so ive been following everything thats been said in this thread but im still having trouble ive used dvdfab 5.1.1.0 to decrypt it full disc.... but its almost ignoring the main movie the actual process through dvdfab takes about 2 minutes and the size of the file is only 222mb instead of a normal 4464mb and i used two different times vobblanker and fixvts but when i go to shrink it the main movie is all green and pretty much non existent hence the small file (222mb) what am i doing wrong?
