You need to look though the forums and / or use google and you will see there are a lot of options, but you do need another card as well.

ok let's see, i want an option that let's me play ds roms (obviously), let's me play gba roms too, i don't care for fancy menus, no probs with running the games (lag or anything like that), good support from the developer team (firmware updates), don't care much about rumble feature, being able to run homebrew would be cool too
i was reading a bit and i think the m3 real is a "good" option based on the requirements to be the "best", what would your input be on this?
on a side note, will any of this flash cards or whatever they are called let me play the games online (wifi)?

Best will always be subjective, everyone who has a card unless it is problematic will think theirs is best (as not many people have several different cards to truely judge)
I have M3 and it is fantastic (my opinion) with the M3 expansion pack (other expansion packs need extra software) it really is the plug and play option
But if you get 10 further replys you can have 10 differing views.

I have had 3 different DS flashcarts over the last... nearly 3 years I believe.
My first was a 512mb DSX which I retired when its team refused to add features that they felt encouraged game piracy, like a cheat code function. It also no longer worked with some newer games, like zelda phantom hourglass.
After that I bought a 1gig G6. Which I liked and used until just a month or so ago when it stopped saving games properly. I was getting corrupted saves constantly. I suspect that the internal flash chip had been damaged.
Now I have an M3 Real. Which I like the best of all. It uses the same firmware as the G6 so has perfect compatibility and a very nice cheat function. And it uses microSDHC cards so storage is very cheap.

So if I pick up a DS Lite, an M3 Real and a Micro sd card I should be able to run homebrew? I'll search for the appropriate posts and guides later. New to the DS system and looking get one soon. Just asking in advance. Is it really that simple and easy?

No card supports GBA roms on its own. But (again pushing the M3, lol) if you get the M3 real perfect pack it comes with a slot 2 ram expansion that gives it GBA support.
Most cards have pretty good homebrew support nowadays. Early ones required you to patch any homebrew to run on your specific card, but the firmwares are autopatching for the most part now.

Thanks P98, appreciate the answer. I know they were noob questions, but I just finished installing custom firmware on a few psp's and I wasn't looking forward to reading and reading and reading. . . . very helpful answer. Thanks again. Things can change quickly in the homebrew scene. Nice to have a current perspective and a place to start.
