so how would i get around to getting ps2 burned games to work on my ps2?
isn't my ps2 version one of those that can be modded?

Ok look I have tried to help you here.
You have asked both those questions before.
I have answered you to both.
Your PS2 can be modded. FMCB works on your model PS2
As for your backups you are doing something wrong.
If you downloaded them, then find another one, could be a bad rip
Or perhaps the media you use doesn't work.
What is the title of the backups you have tried.
Read the through the whole fmcb install process, go to the Original FREEVAST forum and check there for compatibility on backups with ESR.
If you have the ESR.ELF copied to mc, then the whole process is like this.
Put in your PS2 backup, you will then get the screen ESR is loading by ffgriever, you should then get 2 color screens, then the game will load.

Smoky my problem might be getting ESR to work on my PS2.
when you click on the ESR beta r9b dvd direct.elf in one of your posts,it brings you to a thread where there a list of ESR stuff.
I assume i was susposed to download "ESR beta r9b.rar"
after it gets unrared there are 3 elf files, one of which is ESR beta r9b dvd direct.elf.
what do i do with the other 2?

Ok yes you would use ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf to play the backups that are patched with the ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a, which is on the same download page.
This is a quote from the ESR Public Beta thread.
I'm attaching set of three applications.
One is intended for launching games directly from dvd (but can also launch homebrew apps from DVDV discs, just SYSTEM.CNF and proper elf is needed) - "dvd direct" version .
The other is to launch elf files in either mcx:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF or mcx:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF - "mcard" version.
The third is "dvd direct off" version, which is almost the same as the "dvd direct" but will disable ESR after first full successful IOP reset (think about it as "mode 3" in hdloader. All should have similar compatibility (with obvious limitations for "off" version).
That explains what all 3 of the files are.

smoky i keep trying but it aint working for me :(
i would see the ESR logo then black screen thing...
i got a new game file and it still didn't work and now i'm getting a new problem.
i put in the burned disc and it goes to the browser page, then it goes to a black screen and says loading... in white letters or w.e then back to the browser spot then back to loading and its just a continuous process.

i got one game to work burned. but these 2 other games that have been patched successfully are giving me problems.
it gets stuck on the color screen.
but at least i'm making progress. do you have a suggestion?

What are the game titles, what region are they, and to what media did you burn them and at what speed.

Mercenaries. Region is probably NTSC cause when i used the pal to NTSC ADR patch it didn't find anything. I probably used PowerISO, Alcohol %120, or maybe img burn.
Knights of the Temple 2. Region NTSC. imgburn. 1x speed.

Mercenaries 1 & 2 work with ESR. I don't know about the other game.
To know if its PAL or NTSC, just stick the disc back in your PC and explore it through My Computer.
You will then see the SLUS, SCUS,(NTSC) or SLES, SCES (PAL)
Try burning it at 4x and see if it works then. You are using the ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf?

Makes a big difference if you had only burned at 1x before.
The right speed, the proper media, your type of disks +R, -R, your burner all make a difference in burning PS2 games.

i use imgburn generally now. i got ffx2 to work also.
i reburned mercenaries and knights of the temple 2 with 4x. when i put in mercenaries i get fmcb. esr logo. black screen.
with knights of the temple 2. i got color screens and it gets stuck on either one color screen or like half half or some black just different combinations. thats how it was before but it seems to be working better now but it still doesnt run the actual game.

hey smoky if esr disc patcher patches the iso successfully then does that mean that the file should be good to go?

I would have to think its your burning that is going wrong.
I would get some Sony DVD-R and try them. Burn at 4x or higher. A lot of newer guys say they burn at 8x with no problems as long as your burner is capable.
I burn all mine at 4x and never have had issues.

Ok well thats good media.
I don't know how old your PS2 is, but you may want to try cleaning the laser and see if that makes a difference.
Other than that I have no idea why the backups won't work for you with ESR.

Open your fliptop, take a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Dip the q-tip in the rubbing alcohol, not too wet or dripping, and clean firmly but gently in a circular motion for about 30 secs.
Then take a dry q-tip and dry it in the same manner for about 8-10 secs.

oh wait nevermind.
i got 2 games to work because they were pal and used adr patcher.
but now they have another problem -.-
the screen is moved down. i think it has something to do with the x y axis whatever.
and call of duty world at war final front runs really slow.
both of them have the x y axis problem and 1 of them runs really slow the other runs somewhat laggy
and my mom sprayed some kind of air spray on the laser and it seems to be running better.
how can i take care of this screen location problem?
