What I am ultimately trying to do is create a video dvd using mpeg videos I have. The files aren't very high quality(about 10 megs per minute) and I want to fit more than 2 hours on a dvd. I used Sonic MyDVD to set it up with menus but it won't encode the video the way I want and I can only fit 2 hours worth. Also, It messes up when I try to output it to my hardrive. If I could get it into Video_TS.ifo format, I could use dvd shrink to fit it all on one dvd. Somebody let me know what programs to use because I have tried everything I have.

thanks

Hi I did the same thing last weekend. i used the following procedure.

I created my workflow using dvdlab 1.3.1 version (trial) then added all the media content to its assets. then when it outputted dvd format content i shrinked the whole content with dvdshrink/(nero recode can be used as well). the whole procedure is very simple as dvdlab is excellent and very fast compared to all that bulky ulead,sonic stuff. u can use womble mpeg-vcr to cut/edit ur videos alongwith above.

dvdlab --> http://www.mediachance.com
dvdshrink --> http://www.dvdshrink.org
womble mpeg-vcr --> http://www.womble.com

i hope it helps

tmpgenc is easy to use but it is pathetic in performance..coz when i did last weekend i tried lots of combos and finally came to conclusion that its not good enough to use and moreover dvd author version does not give you that flexibilty in making interactive menus what dvdlab can give u..

offcourse its ur choice but in my opinion

dvdlab (for authoring), womble (for editing), dvdshrink (for shrinking) and Nero (for burning) is the best combo to use for getting the best possible output.

i hope it helps..

when i tried TMPGEnc dvd plus to merge and then Demux mpg files it took almost 3 hours to do that (3 gig)whereas womble took almost half of that time. secondly when i tried authoring a dvd with interactive menus i was limited in terms of selecting my menu layout and images and stuff like that. so i tried dvdlab and with dvdlab i could do virtually everything i wanted to do.
secondly being a software engineer i liked the workflow based approach of dvdlab.
so that way i feel that both TMPGEnc dvd author as well as plus didnt suited to me. may be it might suit you but as i said earlier its just a matter of choice.. i always try to find some better tool and maybe in future i might give up dvdlab if i find something better than that.

i hope it helps..

Yeah same as you Herbsman, cept i use CloneDVD now, but as sachin75 said, its a matter of choice. Hell of a lot quicker than Ulead DVD Movie factory, tried their latest trial and after one encode removed it again, way to slow for my liking.
Ah well, back to my gaming.
Later guys.

Well, if you have Nero 6, you can just use NeroVision Express. Create a new DVD-Video, import your MPEG files, setup your menu and burn the damned disc. All the way with Nero. By the way, NeroVision is the only tool that accepts the AVI files created by my Pinnacle PCTV capture card (neither Premiere nor TMPGEnc did it).

All I have to say on that is NeroVision Express is okay for comlete newbies , as it is a one-click wonder for some.
It certainly isn't the best encoder...plus it takes a damn long time ;)
