Hello:

I have a dozen 350 mb avi files and it would be great to get as many on a given dvd for stand-alone play as possible.

I have re-encoded them to various sizes with Avi ReComp, but when I use Nero or another video editing software it says that each single video takes approximately 3.5 gig, regardless of what I've reduced the video to.

So ... how do I get them to smaller sizes and fit multiple videos on a single disc? I'm trying to make a Christmas present for my mother.

Thanks, Afterdawn community!

Are you trying to convert AVI to DVD movie format or are you trying to reduce the size of the AVI files to put them on a data disk and play it on a standalone DivX player?

Hey Attar,

Thanks for the reply. Not sure ... I'm trying to get these avis onto a dvd that will play in a standard dvd player.

My process has been to load them into your standard video editing software (I've tried NeroVision4, Dvd Flick and Corel VideoStudio 12), create menus, etc., and create a dvd disc.

What do you recommend?

Thanks again.

Converting from AVI to DVD inevitably means larger file size after the conversion - but it's the running time of the video that matters.

If, after conversion, you have three hours of running time, the likes of DVD Flick or Nero should fit that on a standard DVD ok.

If you have twelve, half hour episodes to convert, then most programs will balk at authoring six hours to a disk - and if it could be done, the quality is likely to be poor.
What you can do is tell DVD Flick or Nero the output is going to a double layer disk - but just save the output to a folder on the hard drive instead of burning.
Open that folder in DVD Shrink and let it compress the files to fit a standard disk;burn it and see what you think.
