Fat PS2-try cleaning and adjusting the laser.
Slim, try above. Problem still present, replace laser

Slim, Not easily adjusted, sorry forgot to mention that.
Fat can be adjusted by turning the cog wheels (laser angle adjustment) 1 notch at a time.
