What is it about backing up a copie? Ripping an original dvd is easy, but try and back up a copy and you get nothing but problems and errors, does anyone have a reason why this is so?
The discs are in perfect condition and have no marks of any kind on them, they are quality discs (Datawrite Grey) No doubt some will say these discs are rubbish, but I find they work great with a very fussy Sony DRU500AX and produce no coasters!

Why copy a copy?
Compression from dual layer has already been modified.
I have copies using DVD X Copy that do not allow fast forward or chapter search, but you can watch all of the extras and the movie just like the original.
Remember... a copy is not always as good as the original.

Get my drift?

If you used DVD X COPY to copy the origanal it watermarks the copy it makes so you cants copy the copy. If you want to copy a copy I suggest that you use DVD Shrink to copy the origanal in the first place.

(If you do it this way you dont have to open up shrink
again you can open up any dvd burn software i.e ROXIO
because there is no css code on the copy)

You are reading a mindless signature, please stop reading it now it is mindless, one can only presume you are mindless since you are still reading this mindless signature, Oh my god get a life you mindless person, whats the matter with you, dont you have a girlfreind? mindless mindless mindless

few things wrong with that comment
1.the week for it to taken off the shelves has not ended yet
2.its only banned in USA not the whole flippin world
3.This thread started before the court ruling so the guy asking the question could well be useing dvd x copy

p.s if you were not trying to say that he was not useing x copy and you were just askin "is dvd x copy banned" then ignore everything I have just said

The software will be sold still after the week, only minus the DeCSS tool, which kind of makes it pointless in my opinion. Also, there is an ongoing appeal by 321 and people who already have the software can continue to use it with the DeCSS engine.

Sorry to be ignorant but what is DeCSS engine? I have DVD copy and the platinum version. What does this mean to me?

The Decss engine is the part of the program that removes the CSS encryption thus enabling you to back up a movie.

Thanks, but as with music I bought reel to reel, cassettes, records and cds, I never needed 8-track. Disney said "buy it now and own it forever" It is the forever part I have a problem with because magnetic tape is optimum for only 17 years. I wonder why the movies I bought on VHS are now worth ZIP and the early DVD's I bought were $40 an now sell for $10? I really feel I have been gyped (****) by the big corporations. Why can't I take a Disney movie on VHS back and get a discount on the DVD? It won't happen!!! By the way, can I record VHS on to DVD better than 240 resolutions? Do I need to have the DVD?

kaskibla,

Here's a thread about converting VHS to DVD.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/54508

The quality will not be superb but it'll take less space in your bookshelf :)

------

I guess most of you guys knew this already but I didn't notice it mentioned in this thread, but even copies made with DVDXCopy can be easily copied with DVD Decrypter in ISO mode.

Have fun guys!

OK. Screw DVD X Copy. It's too expensive and it sucks. DVD Shrink is FREE and works great. It breaks the encryption on a copyrighted DVD and is able to shrink a dual layer (DVD-9) disc to fit on a blank DVD disc with hardly a difference of compression. Just download the new version and go! It's that easy. Just make sure you have two folders that you're burning to your DVD when done. An empty AUDIO_TS folder and then your VIDEO_TS folder with all the files from the original DVD backed-up by DVD Shrink. I would recommend you defrag before burning, because you will be copying a very big set of files to your hard drive. Then, burn using Nero or what ever burning software your DVD+RW drive came with.
