I've a nec 1300a, firmware 1.09, win xp pro, p4 2ghz.
When i burn a movie on to a dvd using ex. nero, roxio, dvdshrink. The burning prosess is is a success and no errors accure, but when i try to play the disc in my dvd player (denver) i only get "no disc". (I've tried this with many different movies)
The funny part is that last week i burned (backedup) many movies, using the same precidure, and they all works fine om my dvd player (denver).
The media i've used every time is samsung dvd-r.
The "bad" dvds i've burned can only be read in my nec 1300a. (where they work fine.)
PLEASE HELP ME! (F¤&%#&% nec piece of S%&¤)

when u use DVD Shrink make sure u have dvd+r high compatability box ticked and also try burning at a slower speed (when i burn at 4x my disks dont read on my samsung standalone, but work fine on my sharp stanalone, and when I burn at 2.4x they work on both)
I also recomend deep analysis

Uninstall Roxio if you are gonna use Nero as it will probably clash/conflict (this is a known issue with burning software).
DVD Shrink could possibly fail the 'odd' (very rare) DVD or two , so maybe try something else if this problems is with only one disc in particular.
Are you burning to a VIDEO_TS folder within Nero (or simlar burning prog) ?

I've tried everything! Burning to video-Ts folder in Nero. Or burning and converting a divx file in roxio. Or burning with dvd-shrink. The burningprocess in it self is a success, but it seems like dvd isn't closed or something, because no dvd-rom or standalone will read it, except for the nec dvd-burner!
The weired part is also that i copied, converted and burned video-ts etc, last week, and everything worked perfectley.
I've haven't installed anything. So i'm beginning to belive that i've got a bogus player.
(Is it posible to not close a dvd-video disc?) If that's the problem it's very weired because i used roxio and Nero last week ,without changing any settings, with great sucsess! SO whats wrong with my NEC grrrrr.

My NEC-1300 had a simular problem... In my case he burned a couple of dvd's just right, and a couple of days later, it just didn't work... The NEC is very, very peculiair about the brand of dvd's U use. I have found this out the hard way by testing different brands. Now i use datatrax and they play just fine, but other brands gave a lot of different problems; after the first hour the movie just froze, my player could'n read an other brand... Maybe you should rule out this problem, just to be save...

I also have the NEC 1300a. I found that Memorex, Verbatim are the only disks that I can use. I tried generic DVD-R 4x and the spool of 100 is still sitting on my shelf. I also bought another generic brand from Microcenter and they also didnt work. So i have in total about 150 Blank DVD disks that dont work. Where can I get the Firmware upgrade for this, and does anyone think this will solve my problem. Oh I also use DVD Copy Express v3.02

Hi guys, I consider myself so lucky. I have the NEC1300a and even after reading posts off people saying to steer clear, at the time it was cheap so i bought it. It would only burn on +r DVDs until i upgraded my firmware to 1.06. After this I have not had a brand that has failed. I get most of my blanks from bigpockets.co.uk and even there own brand, princo dye, 4x -r work fine at full speed. I Have used expensive +r and -R, usually Ritek and also a bunch of cheap -R when funds are low. So far not had any that won't work. I can only guess im very lucky or this firmware was a good one, im aware there are a few firmwares after this release, but if it aint broke......
I know this post hasnt helped, just a championing shout for NEC.
later guys.

Well you said you upgraded. How did you do it, and where are the firmware files so i can update. I am glad that all media works after flashing, but I would like to know where the files are. Ive had my burner for over 2.5 months and am getting frustrated in my search.

Hope an upgrade works for you too.
