I just purchased a WD TV and was wondering what the best program was to Rip DVD to a hard drive so I can play on my WD TV. I am looking to keep dvd quality and surround sound, I don't really care about extras. I have heard mixed results between VOB, mkv, mp4 and x264. I have both a MAC and PC, but would prefer to use the mac.
what is a WD TV?
you seem to wish to have DVD's on hard drive right?
I like to use ImToo DVD ripper and convert to AVI files.
most are turned to 1 gig hard drive space
first I use RIPIT4ME or DVDFab 4 HD or DVD Fab 5 to back up DVD to DVD5 disk
then my favorite movies I turn to AVI files.
HERE I GET DIFFERENT!
I am BIG into MAME (Multi Arcade Machine Emulator)
my front end of choice is Atomic FE
This program will play
all my console games
2600, Sega master, sega Genesis, sega saturn, Nintend, Super NES, 64
PS1, Mame, Juke box, AND AVI movies!
here is a post from build your own arcade controlls.

here is his home page
http://www.atomicfe.com/ any questions should be asked to him. VERY Nice Man. I have talked to him many times. Email and personal postal mail
I have a Gateway 1.8 gig PC set up on a VERY old 52 inch projection TV, also a 17" PC monitor on top (TV is not SVID.) so menu is hard to read on TV (PC Monitor works fine for this)
All console system game pads have been converted to USB I love the set up
almost as much as my arcade cabs.
