First off, hello all! I have a DVD that was made for me from years of home videos. It will play on my PC, but not my stand alone player. I have a brand new Sony player capable of playing DVD + or - R/RW. When I put the DVD into my PC, I have to select one of the .vob files to play (using Power DVD). I browsed the DVD disc and see that there is an audio_ts folder which is empty, a video_ts folder with one .tmp file and 2 .vob files and from the root of the disc, there is a desktop db file and a desktop df file. What do I need to do to get these on a disc that will play on my stand alone player? I will be using my Sony DRX 510 UL to burn and I have Xcopy Gold, Veritas or Nero 6. Any help appreciated. I'd like to see these on my big screen.

Hiya,

You will need IFOEdit to create the missing DVD structure files, get it here (recommend 095 for stability):
http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/index.html

If you want seperate chapter points (eg so you can jump to or select discrete film clips for viewing) you will need TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5

Do the following:
1 - copy JUST the two VOB files into a directory on your hard drive called VIDEO_TS (create it if need be, must be in UPPERCASE)
2 - run IFOEdit
3 - Create IFOs
4 - Select Create 1 PGC only
5 - Select Create Chapter for each cell
6 - Browse to VIDEO_TS and select the first VOB
7 - Select same as source
8 - OK
9 - WAIT UNTIL PROCESSING HAS FINISHED

10 - In the TOP pane, highlight the bottom entry
11 - Click Get VTS Sectors
12 - Answer YES / OK to everything
13 - Click Quit

In directory VIDEO_TS you now have a complete DVD structure ready for burning, if you just want to watch the DVD straight through that structure is enough.

If you want to add a menu and chapter points etc. let us know and we will guide you through Authoring...

Have Fun...

Thanks for the reply drchips...I did as you suggested and after processing the second VOB file I get a message saying "Could not find any VOB unit in VOB file(s) and then I have no entries in the pane to choose from. Any ideas? I am using IFOEdit 95 and also tried 96

What are the full filenames of your VOB files?

They are VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB

Are you processing the two VOBS seperately?

When you process VTS_01_1.VOB it will also process the second one.

No. I'm only processing the first one and it automatically does the second.

Your VOBs may have been structured wrongly.
You may need something to fix the GOP stucture and the navigational packs.
(I'm at the limit of my knowledge here so it's sketchy I'm afraid)

Re encoding will fix them but you want avoid that if possible.

I think Womble can do it.
Possibly even just 'joining' the two VOBs with VOB edit will do it.

OK. Thanks. I'll try joining the two vob's and see what happens.
